Thought I'd introduce myself here! Just reached an agreement with a seller on a white 2006 VFR (non-ABS). Had him take it to the local Honda Powerhouse dealer (where he bought it, original owner) and had them do the DOT safety as well as a pre-purchase inspection for me - came back and told me the bike is perfect, don't hesitate to pull the trigger.

Going to drive up and trailer it home this weekend (hence the "almost" VFR owner part).

Any stuff I should look out for? Any first things I should do once I get it home?

    Pics?

I'm in the GTA area. I'll be looking for an honest + reliable mechanic in the area. the R/R hasn't been done yet, I'll likely preemptively get that out of the way.

One of the members of the site, Scubalong, our Official Welcoming Member, should be along shortly with the question about where the pics of your bike are. Around here a lot of people won't believe you own a VFR until you show us the pictures. LOL. All in good fun of course, so in case Scubalong doesn't get his act together, here is the official VFRW welcome for those who don't post bike pics with their inaugural post. :worthless:

    mechanic

I've been taking my bike's to 109 cycle at Warden and Danforth rd for years he's worked on my VFR800 and my CB750K and is very reasonable. He used to be the mechanic for the honda motorcycle dealership at Queen and Leslie until they went out of buisness

Living in Canada you might want to paint it a different color... When it starts snowing there next month you may lose your bike... LOL

No point in messing with a working RR unit but the VFRness may be a good idea.

Welcome to our little corner of the internet and congrats on the new steed. When you say "drive up", did you mean the Barrie area?

If she have all the record showing all the regular maintenance then just fill her up with gas and ride her hard. She like it that way:rolleyes: if no maintenance record found I would go over the bike closely I would change all the fluids inspect sprockets and chain, tires before I go any where. Congratulation and please ride safe ATGATT

Kinda hard to say, but looks like PO used lots of lube on his chain, thus the black rear wheel. Some chain degreaser will work good to clean that off. Just be careful not to get it on the rear rotor and the contact portion of the tire.

BTW. Pic from the PO don't count so soon as you get her home, pull out the poloroid and snap away. I see the bike did have what appears to be OEM HArd bags at one time. Were they still with the bike?

Welcome to the site. GTA? Going To Atascadero?

So...this is painful for me to write, but I dropped her on my first ride after I got home. :frown:

After trailering the bike back and dropping it off at U-Haul, I rode it home from the U-Haul depot just fine. After taking a break, I was eager to go out on my first real ride. I live in a condo ramps going up each parking level, and near the top of one ramp, as I went to make the right turn, I didn't give it enough throttle and it tipped over.

Damage seems relatively minimal. Front brake lever a bit bent, rear brake lever a bit bent, snapped off the right mirror, all fixable/replaceable. Paint on right fairing scratched up though, which is much more painful to see.

Also saw a bit of green liquid on the group after I picked up the bike (guessing it was coolant from the overflow) - should I be concerned? I rode the bike for a bit afterwards, and checked the ground for leaks - haven't seen anything dripping.

I know there's a demand for pics, but if you don't mind, I'm going to spend some time in mourning first :frown: I'll post pics in a few days.

Oh man sorry hear about your mishaps
Probably best to open the fairing and give her a visual inspect.
    Glad you not hurt.......

    Thanks for the sympathy!

First order of business when stores open (don't think any are open Sundays around here) is to grab a replacement mirror, and a service manual. Not sure I want to mess with pulling stuff off the bike without a service manual in-hand first.

Fack. You dropped you White Stallion. You bastard. Do that another 7 times and you have caught up to me. If you are careful with a vise, you can straighten out the levers. They will break if you are to forceful though. so go easy. You are going to pay far to much for and OEM mirror. Search Ebay for after market mirrors. Just make sure that any you buy are being shipped from California. Otherwise you are getting cheap shit made in China. They are about 1/4 the price of new if not more, and ship out in about 7 - 10 days. I broke one down in California when Scubalong cut me off in May 2012.

I ordered a set and had a spare left mirror I would have sent you but I already sent it to someone else here about 8 months or so ago.
