I've owned quite a few sport bikes over the years, but I'm getting to old to be hunched over my tank, so I decided to venture into the sport-touring world. I bought a new 09 Yamaha FZ6R 2 years ago for $6K out the door. It's a great bike and I highly recommend it to any beginner (who can handle 480lbs) or a novice who is looking for something a bit tame. I purposely bought the 70-horsepower bike, because I don't have the self-control to not get "in to it" if I had bought an SS or other more powerful bike. After 25-years of riding, and the last 10-years riding 200 days a year, I had my first accident on that bike last summer. I was t-boned by a mini van that ran a stop sign. I still blame myself for "allowing" her to hit me. The FZ6R was totaled and I suffered a dislocated rib and some back and hip problems (which continue today). I bought the bike back from the insurance co. and fixed her back up, minus the road rash on both sides. My wife completed the MSF course a couple of months ago, so we started looking at the new Triumph Bonneville for her. Then I came to my senses and realized that she is going to drop it or dump it at some point. So this gave me the chance to buy myself a bike and let her learn to ride on the FZ6R, which already had some battle wounds. We kept an eye out for sport-touring, streetfighter or naked bikes on CraigsList for a few weeks. I was looking at Truimph ST, Ducati ST4s, Triumph Speed Triples, FZ1, and many other bikes. I finally found a '03 VFR-800 with 39K on the clock for a great deal at $3,500. It was real clean with a Leo Vince a K&N and needed nothing. I've already done the following mods: Sargeant seat with red piping two H4 55-Watt BiXenon HID two H7 55-Watt Xenon HID Pro Taper fat bar risers Pro Taper 1 1/8" Contour Handlebars Heated Grips Removed and capped the air injection
Cool bike buddy. Everett huh! I lived there for a while..as well as lynnwood, u-district, and downtown. I lived in the state for 7 years and being up north in everett and lynnwood was some good times! I worked at the old spaghetti factory years ago!! lol. I lived up by mariner high school with a co-worker and have so many good memories from that townhouse. Im back in hawaii now but i go back when I can to visit friends. Ill be back in september for vacation and I cant wait!
I'm probably not far from where you lived. I actually live closer to Mukilteo and my neighbor has a Lynnwood address, so I'm kind of smack dab between the three cities, just off Hwy 99 and Mukilteo Speedway. I'm trying to remember where the Old Spaghetti factory was. Was that on 196th in Lynnwood? Well if you get a chance to go for a ride while your here send me a PM.
