New 2003 VFR oil filter requires an new oil filter wrench!

I change the oil on my 03 VFR. Today, I removed the old oil filter with the same oil filter wrench I always use. Howerver, when I tried to use the oil filter wrench with a new Honda OEM oil filter, I was surprised to find that the old oil filter wrench was too small.

I went back to the Honda dealer and they informed me that Honda is shipping oil filters with a new part number. They also told me that I would need a new oil filter wrench for $29.95. They did not have on in stock but they did let me see their shop's tool and confirm that it would indeed fit the new oil filters.

I went home without an oil filter wrench for the new oil filter. Real frustrating. I would expect a "good" dealer who knew enough to buy the right tool for thier own shop, to inform customers who change their own oil that they are going to need a new oil filter wrench and to bring a few in for their customers.

Anyway, if your are getting ready to change your own oil, take your oil filter wrench into the dealership with you and make sure it fits the oil filter you are buying. Be prepared to buy a new oil filter wrench.
