    Hi there Gents (& Ladies...)

I'm the very proud new owner of an '06 VFR800i Vtec - Blue. What an awesome bike!!! It's been my ideal bike since the early 2000's and finally I've got my ideal bike. Use to ride a Yamaha FJ1200 (old faithful...) there is quite a differnce in the technology...to say the least.
Anyway - Hope everybody is as happy as I am with their VFRs! All the best & safe riding!

welcome to the site. can you compare the VFR and the FJ for me. I looked at a used one quite a bit as it seemed like a really nice ride, and I thought my wife might be more comfortable and ride longer on one...

Hi there! Yes of course! Look - I loved my FJ1200 ('92) - very cheap to buy and to maintain. Very reliable and strong motor. Not so good on the handling side... Old technology with heavy weight...bad for corners... But if you're looking for a solid, reliable, comfortable sports tourer with some legs and grunt - the FJ is your best value for money buy!

The VFR - man! What can I say... These to bikes are like Chalk & Cheese... Not really fair to compair the two... They startted making the FJ's in '83 - FJ1100 - and stopped making them somewhere in the mid '90's... As you see - Yamaha had a winning recipe here... Now of course replaced / upgraded with the FJR1300's - awesome bike - but can't compare them either... Very pricy - lots more electronic & mechanical features...

But the VFR is just such a honey of a bike! Handles like a dream in corners, 1-up or 2-up with panniers - she just stands and deliver... I LOVE doing passes and corners... any dumb-ass can get on a ZX14/Busa and wind it in a straight line at 300km/h... But the thrill of carving corners and hanging off so close to the ground...that just does it for me... The VFR is just such Do-it-all bike... She looks Sh1t-Hot, won't get left behind up to 230/240km/h and does the luggage thing very nicely with colour-coded panniers. For exstra load space I would have to rather recommend a Tank Bag than another Top Box - as the VFR's weight distribution is spread more through the middle of the bike - over loading the back causes a bit of hands-on-riding when it comes to the corners... therefore putting more weight on the front will make the handling totally different - more true to normal riding. The VFR is one of the best Sports Tourers ever built!

With my 2-stroke roots - I quite enjoy the VTEC motor - you can always rely on the "power-band" to kick in around 7ooorpm. Some people found it disruptive... But that's their personal taste/choice... I absolutely love it!

Anyway - enough about me... Hope you found valueable pointers / info...

    Safe riding!
