    Gentlemen,

I just picked up a 1987 700 VFR Interceptor that an acquaintance had for several years and decided to get rid of. I have always had a warm spot in my heart for the V4 Honda since I have ridden Magnas for over 20 years and wanted a stable mate to my 1997 Magna. I ask for your support and help as I start this project in bringing back to life this old girl.

A few quick notes and questions. The brakes have seized especially the front. Is there any gotchas that I need to be aware of when I disassemble and hone the cylinders. The fairings are not bad but do have cracks and scratches. Is there a good website to explain plastic welding and painting prep. The bike has January 1997 plates so it has been sitting for 12 years. Should I go ahead and soak the cylinders, I would think they have seized as well. The gas tanks seems to be rusted. From what I see, Red-Kote is the preferred on the Internet, does it work? The clutch cylinder has no pressure and I haven't opened the reservoir, again is there any gotchas. I am posting pictures of the bike and would welcome any advice that you gentlemen and assume some ladies can give me.

Hello and welcome! We have some knowledgeable folks on here for the older gens. Two of them are MasonV45 and Jamiedaugherty. Might want to drop them a line.

Welcome! I have an 87 as well but I wish mine had shown up half as clean as yours!

I took the liberty of adding your bikes pic. Hope you don't mind.[IMG]

    Welcome!!

Honing brake cylinders is for cars, not bikes. You will be able to clean bores and pistons with green scotchbrite pad, then install new seals and all is fine.

Soaking the engine cylinders is a good idea....remove the crankshaft cover and put a 17mm socket on the nut at crankshaft end and gradually try to move it around

For rust treatment on tank, just wash it out and use "fuel tank sealer" from:

Plating Kits Electroplating Kits Aluminum Anodizing Kits Powder Coating Systems Metal Polishing And Buffing Supplies - Caswell Inc.

$40 delivered, a clear epoxy and drys to a rock-hard surface. easy to use.

Flush clutch hydraulics with new fluid.

    We're here to help !
