Ok so im new to the forum but I own a 2000 vfr 800 fi and recently starting having an issue with the neutral indicator light not working after bikes been driven and brought to operating tempature. If I move the shifter up or down it will flash on and off but it makes some electrical crackling noise under the gas tank. Around this time the speedometer stoped working. I was just wondering if this could be problems caused by a bad rectifier or if anyone has any other ideas. I haven't had time to throw a meter on it since im working 15 hrs. a day but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for all the replies but I have my bike apart in my garage and atleast I figured out that the speedometer issue was from a broken drive wheel at the front sprocket. I still haven't located the source of the nuetral light problem but unplugging the clutch switch and bye passing it still don't allow me to start the bike in gear. Thanks.

measure the voltage at the Lg wire from neutral safety switch, key on. should be 12 volts with it in gear. 0v in neutral. if it stays 12 v then it is the switch
