I recently took off my carbs and upon replacing them and trying to crank my Interceptor, the start button kept sticking once I commpressed it...so I took the switch control box apart on the handlebars and saw where a small portion of the start button housing was broken off which I assume was the cause with the start button staying compressed...not sure if that caused my issue but I'm in need of advise as to : can I simply replace the starter butotn assembly or do I have to replace the entire Switch control assembly?? and, if I need to replace the entire switch control assembly, where do I find one???? I have searched BikeBandit, CMSNL, Old Bike Barn, Hondapartsline and Ebay without success...seems like the entire switch assembly is not manufactured any longer- go figure!! any advise is greatly appreciated..

From what I have been able to learn, it seems that the spring that returns the button becomes weak, either from heat generated from the current passing through or just weakening over time or both, then the spring will no longer return the button. The button on my 500 was sticking when I bought it and even when I returned the button to the normal position, the headlamp would not light up. I sprayed a good bit of contact cleaner into the crack around the button and after it dried up, squirted some dielectric grease in. This cured the problem of the headlamp not coming on, it works just fine now. But, the button still does not always return and I then have to flip the button out with my finger. I am going to put up with it until it eventually quits working and go from there.

Starter button switch assembly - '84 Interceptor

I tried to find just a starter switch but without success...w/ my 19 yr old daughter riding the bike, I decided to replace the entire switch control assembly...found a new one through Honda parts, yamaha parts, kawasaki parts, ski doo parts, sea doo parts - they are in Michigan and were very helpful...
    thx for all the assistance...
