    Hey everybody.

I got this 85 vf700f here i need some help with. i downloaded the shop manual, but this is the only familiarization i have with this or any motorcycle. (Yeah, my first one).

heres the deal i can get it started only if i shoot a two second spray of carb cleaner into the air box and hold the throttle about halfway. once running it will run the slowest at maybe 2800. i can keep it running above 3000 rpm easy, but once i try to slowly let it slow down itll fall off i cant save it from dying. once it dies, have to use carb spray again. I use seafoam a lot and my friend with a goldwing told me to seafoam the crap out it, i would if i could keep it running! So, my two questions are what should i do, and is seafoam a recommended product to use(kind of scared of the fragile carb parts, i watched a carb rebuild video and the guy said you cant soak any rubber parts or itll eat them up. which is any carb honestly but i dont know my limits with these yet compared to automotive carbs.) this is a whole new world of 'mechanikin' to me so any/all advice would be great!

    Thanks a lot

Did you use the correct cool start procedure?
The carburetors have starter nozzles and the use of the throttle command could affect the engine start.
    The procedure is:
1 - Push the starter lever at the full close position
2 - Check the throttle for full close position
3 - Operate the starter button

If the procedure fails, may be a check to the carburetor nozzles and fuel level.
Other check: verify the fuel pump flow rate for the correct value,

WHAT ?? Let's reiterate again that no need to remove the alloy airbox base from the carb set !! And shouldn't ! If one of those many springs flies loose it could put your eye out, kid, before it disappears behind the workbench.

Not to be vulgar, but u can't be sure until u poke 'em with a the proper guitar string.

^^ what they said. I had to clean the carbs in my 86 VFR750 twice as I was refurbishing it. It's a pain but worth it. Don't underestimate the value in cleaning old jets!

Remember to do a bench sync after by making sure the valves all close the same amount before you put them back in. Use your smallest feeler gauge and loosen the valve until it falls out. Repeat for all 4 carbs.
