I Received a spare seat earlier in the week that I want to have re-covered in leather. ( 83-VF750 )
I was doing some shopping at a local Peddlers-Mall & one of the booth's has leather hides, Pig - Deer - Cow - Sheep.

My Question is: What kind of leather should I be looking for?

I seen a nice deer hide in Black , & they have a sweade in Dark blue that I liked, But they are Thin & Supple.

Well, if its going to be a garage queen, I would think a smooth leather would be great. Leather on a bike seat is tricky do it weather, rider weight, care, and sun.

Personally, I went with a nice high grade boat vinyl. Made for outside, sews and looks good.

I would stay away from suedes as you can't move any, and you want to move on a bike.

    My 2 cents.

Thankyou for your thoughts on this, & I hope others will lend theirs,

Yes, She has been, & will continue to be garaged, Unless I have her at home. Then she will have to be content with being covered.
I was under the impression that you wanted to keep your back side planted?

I recovered mine in a nice black leather it pulled out nice, formed to the seat pan really good... the only draw back is that when I rode it to school it was not covered and sitting outside in the Southern California sun for 3-5 hours a day faded it really quick. I would not recommend leather.. if you can find naugahide that would be the way to go or a vinyl repplace the foam while you are at it... this will ensure a nice fit of your cover.. I staples mine to hte plastic pan for this you need a REALLY GOOD staple gun or you can sew a tie string around the rim of the cover and stretch it over the pan and then tie it in place...

    good luck

Just got my seat recovered today. I have done several myself but there has always been something not perfect with the covering. Today I dropped the seat off at a auto upolster and he only charged me about half an hour and it is perfect. My covers have all been after market vinyl. I wouldnt risk leather personally. I think it needs oiled to keep the leather healthy, and then you get issues with staining the clothes you are wearing - unless you only wear leathers I suppose! Good luck
