Hello everyone! Here is my situations....I put a deposit down on an 06 Pearl White Interceptor. The bike looks pristine but has 18,000 miles on it. I agreed to purchase the bike for $5200 including tax, title, and licensing from a local dealer. I think this is a good deal but am worried about the mileage. I want to make sure I am getting a decent deal and want to hear any opinions on the purchase. I have been looking at VFR's for a while and love them! Thanks for any help. I am scheduled to pick up the bike tomorrow so any help asap would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt.

mileage is not a concern with these bikes mike. If you are concerned with it being high, its a five year ond bike with less 4000 miles a year on it.. the important thing to look for is if the maintainance has been performed and if there are any recalls that the repair work has been dealt with.

Welcome aboard! The V4 engine is proven reliable and with proper maintainence you should be able to get many more miles out of her. I know a few people with close to 100k+ miles on their VFR's and they still sound and perform great! The only things you may need to address in the future are possible valve adjustment and replacement of the CCT (cam chain tensioner) The deal you mentioned is not a steal but not bad either especially considering you are getting a very sexy white VFR which is much less common since that color was only available in 2006. Is the bike completely stock? What type of riding do you plan on doing the most? What type of riding experience do you have?

Welcome to the site! The price seems high, but after all it is from a stealership and it is an OTD price. You're going to hear this from everyone; 18,000 miles is nothing for these bikes. I just picked up an 03 with 16,000mi and the odometer was about the last thing on my list of possible concerns. I paid 2900 just as point of comparison but I also bought it from a private seller. Good luck with the purchase, you really can't go wrong with a VFR.

My 06 pearl has in excess of 72K miles. Regular maintenance resulted in valves adjustments twice and the aforementioned cam chain adjuster replacement fairly recently. And it runs like a brand new bike again. I would have no issue with taking it on yet another long road trip, but for other reasons, that is not in the cards this year. I can't comment on the price though. With the mileage you list, I would even be concerned very little on the maintenance. Mileage is low enough that even if the maintenance was poor, it is low enough to turn that around. I would be more concerned about how it was driven, and of course, you can't determine that unless you know the previous owner, and then you would know the maintenance as well.

    Good luck

The mileage is not an issue. I had over 60,000 miles on my 05 Silver and it was still going strong. It took a garage fire to to total that bike but it STILL started even with the top end melted away! The price is a little high but if you feel right about getting it from the dealer and they take good care of you then go for it! If no one bought bikes from the dealer then we wouldn't have dealers!!

Price is fair, provided the rather expensive valve inspection as well as the rest of the 16k mile service were completed. You'll also want to make sure that the brake and clutch fluids were changed somewhere around 12k, or even more recently. These items are expensive, albeit infrequent, and I wouldn't pay the asking price without verification. If they havn't been done, then $4000 or so would be a more appropriate figure. As everyone else has said, the mileage is of no concern. More than likely, neither are the valves, but you'll want that piece of mind. A VFR needs a major service every 16k and since it wasn't you that put the miles on, there should be no reason to pay for it.

^^ What havcar said. If you're handy with a wrench, you can do the service work yourself with the aid of a shop manual. The brakes have a bleeding sequence, and a "proper" valve adjustment is tedious.

I agree with everyone else and especially wanted to point you back up to havcar's post if you just skimmed. He hits all the important points that you need to know.

I have that very bike and i have 26K miles on it. I dont think you will have an issues with the bike. See if ou can get he dealer to put new plugs in it. THey are supposed to be checked at 16k so you might as well change them. Even if they just give yo 4 plugs (iridim not platinum) for the bike it is better than nothng. Oh, and chain. The stock chan and srockets are up about now. Well honestly the stock srockets are good. See if the chain was replaced.

Anyway you will be fine. Just means the bike was ridden which is better than sitting.

Any extras on the bike like bags, touring windshield, etc. How are the tires? Last valve adjustment? Oil change? Hydraulic fluids? You don't mind paying if all that stuff has been done. Good luck and don't worry about the miles. IT'S A HONDA.

Forma, don't even worry about it. Just buy the bike and be the happy little camper I know you'll be. I bought my '06 pearl white last summer with 7k miles on it and put another 7k since. At 14k the little girl barely feels broken in. As long as the bike was taken care of, it'll run like new for a long long time. 18k is nothing compared to what some folks have on their VFRs.

I had to get used to the VFR a little because I came from a TLR1000R and was used to more torque. I can honestly tell you that I love the VFR more and more every time I ride it. $5200 is a great deal by the way. Jump on it before someone else does.

Congrats on your new ride. Met a guy last summer who does Iron Butt Rides on his VFR and has 186,000 on his 04. No problems. So I don't think you'll have any probs with the mileage on your bike. Never underestimate the staying power of a Honda. Just drop a Viagra in the tank once a week. Just kidding.
