so i bought my bike back in august. the person i bought it from had it since i was 17 and had been working on it here and there never really accomplished anything with it and i said if i ever got the chance to buy it i would so the chance just so happened to arise when my cash flow was plentiful so i said ok nows my chance so i bought it. oh and its wrecked by the way, so ive had it since august paid 500 bucks for it got a few pieces of the fairing, a vance and hines pipe and a half running bike but i didnt care because i love that bike. so now its february and im just now starting to really get in to rebuilding it bought all the fairings last week all 1037 dollars worth (ouch) so i start giving her a once over you know i got a few other things this week new carbs cause the ones on her are totally screwed someone tried to screw with them and totally messed their sync and mixture ratios beyond fixing with out rebuilding plus it hasnt been ridden in like 3 years so i figure eh ill rebuild them then low and behold found a bunch of stuff on ebay a few plastic pieces new carbs to make it much easier so i continue further into the guts of this machine and move on the front end you know pretty straight forward until i sit on top of my bike and notice the wheel is tilted to the side and my bars are straight!!!!....which begs the question is it my forks that are bent im pretty sure it is cause i can look at the forks from the side and they look like the one is kicked forward and one is kicked back i mean i dont have the straightest eye but my buddy was lookin also and i trust his judgement more than my own sometimes he said the same thing or he also thinks its my axle so if someone could help figure this out i would much appreciate it... by the way sorry for writing a freakin book to get to the point guys

First, before assuming the forks are bent (unless you just want to go Frankenviffer), loosen the bolts on the triples, lower only, assuming the tops are equal and see if they go back in place. Also make sure the head bearings are tight, probably need to replace them anyway. Also check the axle bolts for tightness.

After that you'll have to remove forks from triple and check them on the table for striaghtness.

sounds like they are twisted in the triple tree.
loosen bolts, put front tire up against something and twist the bars untill the line back up w/ the tire.
just like back in the day where you tweeked the front wheel on your bicycle.

Agree with 02, try the cheap fix first... It's not that hard to get them crooked, but a lot of times you can straighten them back out without having to replace them. If you are really nervous, take them all the way out, with the front tire off, lay them down side by side and give them a good look. Get a good look at the triple (although it's hard to see if it's tweaked), re-install and see if it still seems twisted. If so, then start thinking about replacing... If I was going to replace, I might look to fleabay for a whole frontend, but then you still run the risk of buying someone's headache...

Hey Freeman, I know of a real good mechanic in Martinsburg (Joe Vital) who is a stand up guy.

If he lives close you may want to contact him for some assistance.

Let me know if you want his information.
