okay... How do you estimate the VALUE of your bike? Since this is a first year of the single sided swingarm and it has made leaps and bounds for the coveted VFR series, Should you - do you - follow the guidelines of KELLY BLUEBOOK in place of value? I know the answer I'm going to use since it suits my purposes... What's yours? **NOTE** Since Insurance doesn't have a value on emotional attachment, we'll take that off of the price... SO?
THE Blue Book is a scam set up by dealers in order to cheat you out of the true value of your ride. The true value of your ride is what the proper buyer is willing to pay, and many factors determine that, primarily CONDITION.
agreed with SQM, you can do an advanced search on ebay to get a feel - used the 'completed listings' option... usually they are in the $2-3K range with exceptionally clean ones a little north of that and ratty ones (broken plastics, abused, rattle can etc) in the $1000 range. A google craigslist will also help, but remember, these are asking prices, not selling prices... vfr site:craigslist.org - Google Search add the year you are looking for to the search box... every now and there a gem pops up
Well, I bought a 92 a couple years ago for 2200, but it had several small cracks in the fairings and some scratches. It also needed a new chain and a rotor. In great condition, I'd a been ready to part with up to $3,500, esp for a '91. Any higher than that, and you can get a '00-'02 [insert brand of choice] 600R with less than 20,000 miles pretty easy. Not that is would be as good, but it's hard to justify a bike that's 10 years older for the same kinda money.
