Ok...so the identity is confirmed. Now, I checked the rear sprocket and it is a 43T which is stock, correct? I haven't checked the front yet. If the gearing was changed, that could explain why I'm not getting fantastic mileage, right? (low to mid 30s)

Gearing could explain some change in mileage...but not that drastic if you're running a stock rear sprocket. Probably only 1 or 2 tooth difference on the front. Are you sure it's stock? No jetting mods, and stock exhaust? Low 30's sounds like crap to me if it's stock. I was getting 40-45 mpg stock with a 45 tooth rear on my 1998 VFR800 and my fat butt riding it.

What kind of riding style have you been using? Riding it like you stole it would explain it. Makes a huge difference if you granny shift and tour as opposed to aggressive street riding and keeping the revs up there all the time.

What's the condition of your air filter and spark plugs?
