... Completely forget how to re-install it that is!

Took my new-to-me '96 apart last Fall for restoration and upgrades. Pulled the centerstand to remove the exhaust now I'm at a loss to get it back on right.

Checked my service manual (Haynes) no help. Checked this fiche: Ronayers.com Fiche Desktop Motorcycle Honda 1996 VFR750F STAND 94-97

    Still don't get it... "DUH!"

I'm all set with the pivot 'pipe' and washer at the right side, but can't figure out how/where to replace the 'plate' (# 7 in the fiche and pic below)

Don't recall where the springs anchor... why are there two, the small one does "???"
White Arrow: What purpose does that wire leg on the pivot serve?

Also had the bracket with the question mark in the bin holding the stand parts... doesn't appear on the fiche at all.
    Anybody know what that is?

What a dork I feel like right now!! :hangme:

Can someone lend a hand, maybe post a pic of this assembly together to refresh my befogged memory?

Well I don't have any pics of a 4th gen. centerstand Hammerspur, but here are a few pics of the centerstand on my 6th gen.
Your 4th gen. should be fairly similar.

Part number seven in your pic appears to be the spring holder. Here's what it looks like on my 6th gen.
If you look closely you'll see that my 6th gen. also uses two springs to return the centerstand to it's stowed position.

The part with the question mark on it in your pic looks like it might possibly be a fairing hanger bracket.
As for the wire leg on that pivot, were there any rubber drain hoses routed through that when you disassembled the bike?
Just a thought. Hope this helps you.

Edit...Forgot to add that Honda uses two springs to hold the centerstand as kind of a belt and suspenders fix. In case one spring breaks the other one is still there to hold the centerstand from dragging on the ground.
If you look closely at the first pic I posted Hammerspur you'll see that Honda even uses two springs to hold the sidestand on my 6th gen.

Yeah I figured it would Tink. They're different generation bikes. Just tossed the pics out there to give Hammerspur a general idea of how the centerstand mounts on the bike. I figured he'd see the pics and figure it out for himself. Just trying to lend a hand.

?= fairing bracket (as suggested) it goes on the aft, side stand bolt

The small spring goes inside the large spring. They go in the same holes, like Stoshmonster's pic.

    arrow= holds overflow tubes X2

Thanks Stosh, I got it now... your vivid color pics should be part of a service manual! :thumb:

Experienced massive brain fart last night after wrenching on the exhaust, rear suspension, etc.

Not sure if mine is right, or that it will make a diff, but my spring is connected at the bottom, with the long hook at the top.

Don't know if it does in this case but it DOES on some models. I've noticed on GL1800's for example, if you install the spring backwards when the bike is removed from the centerstand the leg of the stand contacts the spring coil and nearly pushes the hook out of its holder. I think it would be bad to have the spring fall off when you're going down the road.

If I can remember, I'll snap some photos of mine tonight and post up. My center stand has never been removed or tinkered with.

Since my battery crapped out last weekend, the VFR's been sitting on the center stand since then.

Yep, that's how it goes on. Other way 'round and the rubber tubed coils rub on the collector box.

All set Viff' got it figured out... Thanks! :thumb:
