I am having trouble re assembling my Anti-Dive assembly. The bike is a 1985 but it looks like it got the earlier model anti0dive mech on it. My problem is the plunger it the photo seems to large to fit the hole? I have spent much time trying to press it in straight with the bench vise, but it is so tight it starts to damage the alloy. Is there an easier way of doing this?

I would appreciate any help given:mad:

When putting my dive stuff back together on my 86 750 I was able to do it by hand, you must be assembling it incorrectly if you have to resort to pressing it in with a vise.

Thanks Duke Book, it does seem like Im doing something wrong. Yet I kept all the parts in a container and I'm sure that this is the part that goes in this hole. It most definatly wont go by hand. I am a patient non forcing type of person and normaly succeed with fiddly things... It was tight to remove and I had to drive it out with pin and hammer. Does it look like the corrrect part to you? maybe Iv'e got something mixed up.

Rainman, I'm in the process of getting my front end reassembled now too. I'll take a close look at that assembly when I get home from work and see if I can add any value to your situation. (By the way, I haven't had to resort to hammering stuff apart yet!!)

I am in the same boat. I had a set of forks from an '84 and a set from an '85. One of the pairs was missing the anti-dive link so I went to replace it with the pair that did. After fiddling with it for 30 minutes I came to the conclusion that the two years must have different parts as it clearly did not fit. A review of the parts diagrams online confirmed my suspicions....

Stop hammering! Rainman, verify that you've got the right bushing there. I looked at my fork I just finished reassembling, and that bushing goes into the upper bore for attaching the brakes!

 You not wrong Squirrel. I'm gonna leave the thread up to let everybody know that its OK to ask dumbarse embarrassing questions!
Thanks you so much Pops, I just slid that part into the fork mount - perfect fit! Suprise suprise ah!
So I am going to risk asking another question - cant be any further humilated anyways - Does the hole that I was trying to put that bushing in just get the pivit bolt in it, which sits very loosly in the hole, just pinned buy the rubber stopper and sprung plunger? I see in my book there should also be a couple of rubber boots which are missing off mine.

Has anybody thought of having a thread listing the dumbest mistakes nd once a year someone wins a "Wally" award for doing the most stupid thing.....I never win anything but maybe there is still a chance!:thumb:
