I have recently been informed by another forum member, via the infamous JoeyDude thread, that I have not been forthcoming in my disclosure of the mods I have been performing. I figured I would address these allegations and post this thread, so that the keyboard cowboy from GA wouldn't be so upset. I have been working on ways to improve the moment of inertia of the rear wheel, without having to change to a $2500.00 wheelset. I am in the process of doing some work to lighten up the rotating mass closest to the center, or hub, area of the rear wheel to improve acceleration and to get better grunt coming up off the corner. So far I have been able to remove a decent amount of weight from this area by performing these mods. The quick and easy formula is that for every 1 pound of weight removed from this area of the wheel is equal to 7 pounds in the seat. Pretty substantial. During this process I also wrapped my tailpipe components to aid in scavenging the spent exhaust gases. Here are some pics:

Not to discount your work, but you know the effect would be maximized if you could take weight off around the rim, as opposed to the center hub. Of course yeah, any unsprung weight off the the wheel is a plus. MD

I am very familiar with the relevent angular acceleration formulas. My educational background included a few years of physics. You are correct with your observation concerning the wheels. I followed your failed BST wheel attempts when I first bought my machine. This mod will provide a nice benefit over the stock configuration at roughly 1/12 the cost of wheels. It won't be AS benficial as a wheel would be, but an acceptable improvement for the cost and level of effort. I have a large pool of motorcycle engineering assistance that I run my ideas past. A few of my ideas are met with a face palm, however this one was immediately accepted. It is all about the sum of the parts.
