Just picked up a 85 VF700F a few days ago. Its in decent rough shape. Some of it is good and some is bad .

Doesn't run and is missing a few pieces which is fine as im going to pull everything apart anyway and build the bike the way i want.
I will be selling some of the pieces i wont need so if there is something you may need , shoot me a message and ill see if i will sell it or not.

Here are some pics of the bike in its current state and some of what i hope it will resemble in the distant future.

    Thanks

I'm also on other forums like cbrforum and Nasioc for subarus so I know how important pics can be especially coming from a newbie.

The progress will be super slow on this as I live in Vegas and the bike is out in OC at my inlaws place. But that gives me time to plan and then work on it when we go out there.

Im pretty sure ill come across a few hurdles but that's to be expected from any project. And I'm sure ill have many questions and already use the search function like a mofo to find stuff and some things I haven't found yet. Im compiling my questions all the time.

Apparently you like idiosyncratic hackjobs and feel you must put your stamp on any bikes that pass through your hands. Your VF as pictured is something of a classic, and many believe it should be preserved as OEM as possible, not forced into the latest copycat fashion so you can seem cool to other hackers.:cower: :behindsofa:

True it is a classic ,but I got it for cheap $100 knowing it needs a lot of work and knowing what I wanted in the end. Not trying to be the cool guy on a bike by any means , just wanted a project I can tinker with while visiting the inlaws and turn it into something different. I don't have a lot of money to just go out and buy the bike of my dreams, so I will create something close and cheap. I don't do things half assed and am very mechanically inclined and know how to weld and fabricate.
Plus why would I want another cookie cutter bike.
That's what makes this so enjoyable anyway. I am not a oem purist that has to have a perfect factory original.

that's just it even doing a mild restoration on that 30 year old bike you won't have a cookie cutter. It's kind of funny but since I picked up the 500 I'm working on all the young guns (under 25) that hang out at my shop are freaked out just how cool looking something that old looks. One of them rides a R1 and another rides a 600RR both of them think the VF500 is a great looking bike and something different from every other bike that their friends ride.

I'm not a purest per say but I like looks of a good clean restoration with some updates. New style turn markers, different paint colors, graphic's, and small stuff that just sets the bike off. Personally I hate naked bikes they look like someone was to cheap to fix something that was dropped or ridden hard. Don't get me wrong it's your bike do what you like and post pic's as you go along if we were all the same we would all be driving Chevette's and Harley's

Don't get me wrong, I also love well done restorations and can appreciate what goes into doing one right. But for me its just not my style.
If this was a bike that was super rare , I would sell it to someone who would restore it.

I'm more of the resto/mod kind of guy and yes maybe I do like to put my "stamp" on things to make them my own.

I didn't mean cookie cutter like this would look like every other bike on the road , because even stock its totally different from what I see daily.
I just want a fun project that will be fun to ride whenever I'm done with it and completely different than my CBR.
