I just purchased a new 2006 model just over two weeks ago, and have spent a few hours in the seat. Did 1000km over last weekend .

The motor is awesome for touring. Lots of low down grunt. Please note - at 6000 RPM in sixth gear, you will loose your license here in Australia. (over 140km per hour). I almost wonder why it needs the extra 2 valves, however its a bonus to know theyre there.

To me - the extra low down torque of the VTec is well worth it. If your a rev head - sure you can have a CBR or similar.

The motor pulls beautifully from < 2000 RPM upwards.

Aerodynamics are awesome compared to an R6 or even a Gen1 VFR. You can ride high speed WITHOUT having to hide beneith the fairing - and you dont have your head almost ripped off. Windstream hits me at about eye level, placing almost no strain on me during high speed riding.

Some of my ride was in high wind. It sits on the road better than an R6.

It seems to me to handle as well as my old R6. Perhaps only a tad less nimble, but seems way more stable, no head shakes or tank slappers. It feels lighter than you would think. I am confident riding this bike, I feel safer.

I believe - if the law would allow, I could do easily more kms a day on this than on an R6, and day after day.

After the weekend in the seat - Ive fallen in love with the overall package of the VTec VFR.

you'd actually lose your licesnse? I think here we'd just get a ticket....depending on where you were riding. For the most part here in Cali it seems like everyone is speeding some. Some people are just speeding a lot. Generally I go about 10 mph over the posted limit and I have never had an officer pull me over either on being met or when passing them. Congrats on the new bike and many happy clicks.

The government and police in AUS have convinced themselves that *speed* is the devil incarnate, and are doing all they can to *save us from ourselves*.
In Victoria there is zero tolerance for even being 2-3 klm/h over the posted limit, be it speed camera or pulled over for speeding, you stand little chance of getting off.
There are technical arguments for getting off or a reduced penalty as Australian Design Rules (ADR) allow vehicle speedometers to have a +/- 10% error factor, so you could be speeding without even knowing it.
There's a host of other topics too, but i'm OT already.

Hopsterman good to see your happy with the bike, i almost never got a VFR as i had completely forgot about them. A Triumph Daytona 675 or ZX-14 were my choices,, then i seriously analysed my riding activities and started to look for something more sedate that was not an inline 4 (daytona is a triple and i fell in love with the sound, then i recalled the V4 growl).

    I'll have mine for years.

Must be bad not to be able to let the Viffer loose..ever.

Locally our "official" speed limit is 120 km/h but we all take our changes (penalties are not that harsh) and the men in blue only realy gets grumpy over 180 km/h. Every now and again, someone gets carried away though. They trapped a GSXR1000 recently at 286 km/h...huge problems...threats of impounding the bike and a massive fine.

We have very bad number plate holders here and plates regularly tend to fall off. I can live with the fine for that...no other penalties (as yet)

Queensland, we have a 110 limit on some roads, and 40km/hr over that you loose your license. (If your caught that is)

Not to say I havnt exceeded that yet, just dont tell any one please.

Northern territory have an unlimited speed zone on some roads, ill have to do a trip up there sometime.

Glad you like your machine, the VFR is a great choice for Australian roads as they just feel planted and aren't phased by some of our sometimes iffy road surfaces like lighter twitchier bikes are and you tend to see quite a few on our roads sometimes in the company of tourers , sometimes in the company of Sports bikes.

Please note the VTec transition gets better and better with the K's with 10,000 being butter smooth.

As a hint the VFR 800 engine likes to be above 4000rpm when crusing especially in 5th & 6th gears.

    speed

The speed thing here in Oz is just a money earner. If they were serious about reducing the road toll they'd put a greater emphasis on driver education (like most riders do).

    That's my 2 cents.
