Just bought a 2001 VFR with 41,000 miles on it. I know it's a lot of miles, but I'm replacing a 1994 Honda F2 that's still running perfect with 82,000 miles so I'm OK with it. When I get a new/used bike I tend to start making changes to it immediately. First thing I didn't like was the speedometer was way off, like 10-12mph high at 70mph. I decided to go to a 18t front sprocket hoping it would correct it. I counted the teeth on the existing sprocket to be sure it was 17, and that's what I counted. After putting on the 18t, I cleaned all the grease off of the existing sprocket, and found it was a 16t, not 17. Fortunately, the 18t is almost perfect. Speedometer reads maybe 1mph high at 55mph compared to my GPS. I've done a number of other changes already, and I will post my results soon. Jim
Your speedometer may be correct, but now your odometer is off. I tried a 18 tooth on my '99 and didn't care for the decrease in perceived performance. I put the stock sprocket back on and went to a 45 tooth at the rear. A much better combination IMO.
Nice Bike, welcome aboard. 41k is actually not bad for a VFR, barely broken in. Enjoy, my 5th gen has become my favorite bike of all time.
