so my bike idles at about 4k rpm once the engine warms up. another symptom is that it's almost like the choke is still on, because when I rev the engine it takes longer than normal for the revs to come back down to idle.

Any ideas? Let me know if you need anymore info.

    Thanks guys:thumbsup:

when was the last time the carb's were cleaned ??? might try first running some seafoam through a tank of gas see if that help's . if not time to pull them off and give them a good cleaning...... if you pull them off, you might want to have them synced afterward.

I just bought the bike a couple of weeks ago, so to be honest, I have no freaking clue. The PO said he did a valve job about 2k miles ago, so I figured he would have worked on the carbs then too. How much seafoam to one tank of gas, the whole can? Never used the stuff before, sorry for the newbish question

try a few things before you remove the carbs...they are a bitch to get back on....locate on the left side of the bike the idle screw......turn it so the idle goes down..if the screw is out all the way you have another problem.. check your throttle cables one may be a tad to short.. I say this cause usually the problem is "the bike wont run without the choke on".

If you pull the left faring off look directly in you should see a black nut hanging off the side of the carbs next to wre the throttle cables attache, turn it...counter clockwise that should drop the RPMs

Rev's slow to drop is an indication of a bad carb sync. A different idle when you stop is another indication. When you chop the throttle, the tach needle should drop like a rock.
