I took it for a spin Thursday night and it ran like a top. I went to take it for a run on Friday and it would turn over and almost catch and then backfire on every 10th or so turnover. I thought I flooded it, stunk of gas. Tried again yesterday and the same thing happened, turn over and over and then ultimately backfire. 83 VF750. Any thoughts on where to start looking? My season's almost over due to the weather here but I'd like one last spin before she goes to bed.

Sounds like a stuck float or something causing fouled plug(s). I'd pull the spark plugs and check them and I think you'll find at least one of them are wet. The symptoms you are describing are typical of this problem so that's where I would start.

Plugs were bad, all of them. I replaced them roughly 3000km ago. I also tapped the carb bodies to see if I could get the float to release. It does run on the rich side, and now that it's running again I'll take it for a spin and then pull the carbs to clean them during the winter. Thanks again Jamie.
