Has anyone made their own slip on mufflers? I'm thinking of making a set but not sure where to start.

Are you looking to make the mid-pipe or header or can? I plan to use my stock headers, get some custom mid-pipes and find some "modern" cans to put on the custom mid-pipes. If you search around a lot of people have found the old aftermarket Vance and Hines or F1 cans. Not many have modded a newer can to their bikes.

I adapted some Honda VTR1000 mufflers to my exhaust system. I had to weld on some tubing to the end. I figured that any muffler that has 50 hp pulses (2 cylinder 100 hp bike) would have enough flow for my 750. They sound nice without being loud. I had F! mufflers on it and they sounded like wore out car mufflers.

Lesson 1, go to the local muffler shop with your old mid pipes and get some bent out of aluminized steel. Costs, maybe $20.
Lesson 2, find the cans you like and make sure to get the muffler shop to use the right pipe or expand/shrink the connectors to fit either the cans or the connectors.
    Lesson 3, mount and run.

I've done it twice. Simple and cost effective. The 3rd gens don't have a lot of choice.
