Has anyone repacked their aftermarket muffler? What am i looking for that would tell me i need to do this? The muffler in question still has the fiberglass packing which seems to be in good shape, albeit it's been blackened by exhaust and it is denser than the new packing i have. I've had it for ten years and have never repacked it.
Rev: Mine will be ready for repack by the end of this year. I called Two Brothers and they sell all the items (rivets, rivet gun, packing, etc.) that are needed. It does not look hard to do, but TB also will do it for you! I spoke with 'Brian' and he said they charge 20.00 in labor per can, plus the 20and change in materials, then they'll send it back. Look on their website and they have the drill bit size needed and rivet size needed. You just drill out the existing rivets, pull off the back of the can, empty packing, repack, insert the back of the can, re-rivet and you are done. BZ
So this was a pretty straightforward job. Got the kit from 2 Bros - came with the fiberglass packing, rivets, #30 drill bit, and i also got a tube of high-temp sealant. Took about an hour; had to take both ends off but once I got the old packing out it went quick. Sounds about the same, maybe less tinny/raspy. I'll take it out tomorrow and see how it sounds at full whack.
