Looking at pictures of the bike there seems to be 2 different styles of mirrors for the bike. I'm not putting the flat mirrors back on it, and havent seen any online any where does anyone know of a more modern mirror style that will fit on the 86 700?

    Welcome!

Don't know myself - on my 500 I ended up buying a set of generic universals that look very similar to stock, cost me $12-$14/ea

Good luck, maybe someone else will have a better answer for ya.

I'm trying to get away from the stock look, even thought I want the bike as close to original as possible I want to be diffeernt also so as far as bolt on's I'll uses as much up to date stuff as possible ie mirrors, levers, pegs, blinkers. I was looking at gixer mirrors but they have double bolts and wont sit at all.

Love the mirrors, could you please explain the mod you did, I wonder if it will work with the gxr intergrated mirriors. I would like my blinkers to be up high. This mode info would be great.

No reasion the inegrated mirrors won't work.
Only have one pic from when I did it.

    (1) You need to heat the mirror glass (hairdryer or heatgun) I used my GPS windshield suction cup to remove the mirror glasses once heated. YOU CAN'T pry on the glass, it will break! You have to get in there to remove stem nuts.
    (2) Remove both stems, held in with nuts with a spring behind them, THESE MUST BE SWAPPED LEFT TO RIGHT / RIGHT TO LEFT, don't swap them yet.
    (3) See pic, dremel or cut out the pivot hole at top so mirrors will pivot up and be level.
    (4) Put the left stem in rt mirror and rt stem in left mirror tighten fairly tight or they will move over bumps.
    (5) Heat the sticky pad a bit and reinstall the mirror glasses.
    (6) I used my old front axle fork pinch bolts for mounting (58mmX8mm) and a lock nut and a piece of aluminum tubing that just fits in the cowl rubber grommet,
I think I cut it to 30mm long with a washer on top before the mirror stem. You can probably use old lawn chair tubing or a bushing of some kind (when tight it SHOULDN'T be smashing the cowl but just slight pressure)

I allso made finish pieces of larger alum tubing where Honda forgot to finish it off and fitted plastic caps over the bolt heads on top.

Pretty much all pluses with these mirrors, lighter, smaller more aerodynamic, looks much better, good visability, cheap mod, readily availible, no vibs on mine, just wish they had blue coated lenses but I couldn't find any. I would have done integrated signals but I allready spent money on new T/signal rubber stems.

I'm new to this bike and looking at your console layout your bike is very differnt than mine and very clean. Mine wont be anywhere as clean as yours but good job keeping it looking so good. The previous 2 owners of mine didnt have garages so she is weathered badly. I have yet to ride this bike but how far off is she from your 06?

You mean my Suzuki GS500F? The Suzy is a cheap entry level bike, no comparison to the VFR, I'd compare the GS more to my 1970 CL450 Honda but with modern looks. The CL450 was a better engine by far thou. But for what the GS is it's ok but it's a old air cooled design, I bought it with a bad engine so I'm rebuilding, got all new parts cheap thank's to a dealer closeout.

I was just trying to get a feel on the VFR handling compared toyour others. My only other bike was a CBR929. I'm retoring this 1 but wanted insight on how she would handle as a daily rider.

My VFR don't handle as solid as my Blackbird but it don't blow around as much as the GS, the small tires and non cartridge forks are weak points but for commuting it's decent and the V4 makes up for it's suspension shortcomings, I have a fork brace but would like to do cartridge emulators/fork springs and steering dampner but I'm debating on someday just doing single sided swingarm and CBR600 front end.

Suspension is the next thing I'll be asking about. I need to know if there is a rear suspension from a newer bike that is compatable with this one. My buddy thinks that the suspension from new VFr's look the same and will fit. Any idea on this 1. he suspension on mine is shot I'm about 240 lbs so when I sit on it it goes to the ground. I want to upgrade it.
