Does anyone know which are the best mirrors with built in blinkers to use on a fifth gen.
I would prefer painted ones as opposed to black.
There must be something out there that is an easy fit.

Hmm - I have always been distinctly suspicious about the idea of adding unnecessary expense and complexity to the component most likely to get broken on a motorbike. OK from the manufacturers perspective it makes great sense, and indeed many luxury car manufacturers seem to have had a similar thought process. It gets even better when you also design a mounting arrangement which effectively locks bike owners into buying your OEM part if(when) it does get whacked and the lense smashed in the process. Suffice to say a genuine Suzuki GSXR part is not cheap.

Thankfully if you unbolt your current mirrors and measure the hole sizes and spacings then you can potentially email ebay sellers asking them to provide the equivalent measurements. I suspect there are now plenty of clone items out there which might work for you such as these rather more reasonably priced mirrors currently on ebay with worldwide postage offered - Suzuki GSXR600 GSXR750 GSXR1000 K6 K7 K8 Integrated Indicator Turn Signal Mirror | eBay

As for an easy fit - I rather doubt it - as the 5th gen VFR mirror mount has no provision for wiring, I assume you will be out with a drill, and at the very least need to splice into the existing indicator wiring to run it in parallel with the current front indicators. The extra current draw may mean you will have to fit LEDs or upgrade the flasher unit to keep the blink speed about right.

Personally I think a great bike would look rather butchered if you also decided to remove the existing front indicators and simply blank off the hole, but its your bike. Enjoy..

    Good luck

I have seen peeps using knock off GSXR mirror on the 5th gen. There should be a thread about this subject, let me see if I can find it.

    Mirror turn signals

Remove old signals, reroute wires to fairing and patch over hole and paint. Some mirrors do not have running light provision.

GSXR mirrors with adapters available over at vfrd.

    New CBR1000 mirrors.

Triumph Sprint mirrors. I happen to have a pair in my garage if you want to try it.

Your money, your project. I run Honda Blackbird mirrors with my own homemade adpaters on my 93.

Love my blinker mirrors. Cost about $40 for the pair off eBay. Bolt right up, plug into the existing plugs using crimp on spade connectors and a little shrink tube. Gives a much more modern look to the bike. I did not add a resistor to add load to the system as I like the faster flashing.

tink, ive been wanting to ditch the condoms on my 99, and im all about hi-viz.

ive seen units online very similar to the ones you have, and thought they looked iffy at best,
    but ...
seeing them on your bike makes me think they may be just the right solution (at least for me)

    couple of questions:
    - are they drilled at 50mm to fit OEM ? or a slotted adjustable base like most ive seen?
    - 2 or 3 wire? ie: running lights AND turn indication? or just pick your preference?
(it appears your OEM turns are missing so im gonna speculate on a run-AND-turn setup)
    - how is the fit in terms of function? able to set them to actually see behind your elbows?
it looks like pivot only at base, no spin or yaw there, and as normal full articulation at head?
this is the config that i thought would be the no-go part, but looks like you have them working
    - do you have a manuf / part # / model / dist / vendor / ebayer / or any contact info?

thanks in advance for any further insight, - ben

    Slotted base

Two wire so you give up running lights - like so many other bikes out there

Folds at the base and ball socket multi-directional adjustment at the mirror end

Similar length to OEM so you're moving elbows without extensions

Not sure of the eBay seller and bought them too long ago to show in my history :(

I'm wondering where your OEM turn signal holes went. Epoxy fill, then repaint?

Same deal with your muffler - Under-tail system: Is that a custom fabricated design?
(edit) Wait a minute..that's not a fifth-gen backend on that bike, is it? (/edit)

I used fiberglass to fill the holes. If I had to do it again, I would have plastic welded them and used fiberglass filler as a finisher.

6 gen tail. Link in my signature has details on the mirrors and the tail.

Yeah, I'm wondering about that too. Can you shed a little light on that... which year Gixxer? How much modification was required to make it work?

I've thought about doing this myself but only if the new mirrors had longer stems to widen the rear view. Instead of blocking off the existing holes what about mounting a small pair of led projectors (1.5" diameter ) to help out with the weak low beams.
