I have a new Metzler Sportec M1 on the Front of my VFR. I need to buy a new Rear. I was about to order a new M1, but noticed that a newer design M3 is available with some advantages. My question is if there would be any compromise in stability and handling if I put an M3 on the rear with the M1 on front?

I don't see why it would hurt. Many people run different models of tires on the same bike. My Honda Hawk had two different tires on it when I bought it. I never had any issues with the set up. It wears M1 front & rear now. They are an awesome tire but they don't last worth a crap. I would venture a guess & say I will get no more than 1200 miles out of the rear & maybe 2500 out of the front. I always run the same simply because no dealer in NJ will mount two different tires on the same bike for liability reasons.

    KC-10 FE out...
