I am looking into a light weight mesh jacket. How do riders like the Fieldsheer MAG 1 Mesh Jackets compare to the Joe Rocket Phoenix Jackets. I am traveling on business. Just passing the time away here in good ole Texas!!!

I am wondering which provides the better protection without the restriction in air flow for very hot weather riding. I have not tried any of these on..

    Thanks...

Thats interesting, It's been getting pretty darn warm here and was thinking maybe one of the newer mesh jackets would be the ticket. Went to the dealer to see what they have, they have both jackets you're talking about, fit and the way they are made has me leaning towards the Joe rocket, besides I like the white even thou it has emblems all over it, it still looks nice..

Do they seem to be the same weight of material? After looking at them both, would you say the JR breathes better? White? I have not seen one in white. Was the jacket a Phoenix 4.0 mesh jacket? I think the JR has a waterproof/windproof removable liner... Wish I was home riding instead of here in Texas!!!!

I think we had a thread similar to this a month or so ago. I have a Joe Rocket Atomic. I liked it a lot at first, but now I'm not liking it so much. The fit is pretty loose to me. I have the waist cinched all the way down but it still is big in the belly area to me. It works great for wearing over stuff, though. I suppose I could have bought a smaller size, but then it's tight in the armpits. I'm probably going to buy a leather jacket and sell the Joe Rocket. Oh, and the white section of my jacket gets dirty pretty easy. I haven't washed it yet, but I'm thinking machine cold and air dry should be safe for the fabric.

Joe Rocket and Fieldsheer both make nice garments. You should however notice that the Fieldsheer is actually put together better than the Joe Rocket. The stitching will be better and the quality of the mesh on the Fieldsheer is far superior. As for weight the JR is a little lighter because they use a lighter mesh. The Fieldsheer jacket you are looking at is no longer a current product for Fieldsheer. Fieldsheer just released a bunch of new jackets in the last month. Go check out the new "Johnny Cool" mesh jacket or the "High Temp" jacket. I have been wearing the Johnny Cool and it works very nice. It was in the 90's here this weekend and riding in that jacket was very nice. I should have the High Temp jacket here today and I'll try it out tonight but I expect it to be just as nice. Both of these jackets come with a quilted liner in them that zips out. With the liner in it you should be good and warm down to 40 degrees or so which is pretty damn good for a mesh jacket. The main difference in these jackets is really just he styling. The Jonny Cool is a little more agressive both in the cut of the jacket and the color ways. Also, Fieldsheer make a mesh pant called the "four seasons" pant. It is a mesh pant that also has a removable liner. I have been wearing them for a couple of weeks and they work awesome. Both jackets will zip to the pants and if you don't have pants each jacket comes with 8" zipper in the back and comes with both parts of the zipper so if you have a favorite pair of pants you want to zip them to you can have the zipper sewn onto them. You can check this new fieldsheer product out @ www.fieldsheer.com.

p.s. the Johnny Cool retail for $159.95, the High temp @ $189.95 and there is a lower line mesh jacket called the High Flow which retails @ $99.95. The Fourseason pant retails @ $169.95

I'm not familiar with the Fieldsheer model, but I can give you input on the JR Phoenix jacket. I've had one for the last 3 years and I'm very happy with it. Had one of the buttons on the forearm pop off last year, though. No biggie, a safety pin did the trick for the repair. It's my main jacket for about 4-5 months out of the year and makes these 100+ degree days we're going through just a bit more bearable. Airflow through the jacket is just incredible, definitely don't get caught in it when things get cooler - you'll get downright cold.

Ok, just got back from my nightly ride. Tried out the High Temp jacket from Fieldsheer! AWESOME. It was 90+ degrees and I stayed cool as you can in a jacket. Fit is awesome, mesh is nice, CE armor throughout which fits perfect in all the right places. Plenty of volume adjustment in the waist and around the arms. I would highly recommend this jacket. The Johnny Cool jacket was nice but this one is better...... but like I said in my last post not as "flashy" as the Johnny Cool. I also received today the "Ice Berg" vest. I didn't try it out yet. I'll do it so soon and let you know what I think.

Check out www.brocktoncycle.com. They have the Mag 1 on close out for $40. I purchased my fieldsheer jacket from them about two years ago. It arrived quickly, no problems.

    love2ride,
Here is a jacket you might look into, the Belstaff Zodiac. My wife got one for me about 2 years ago and I love it. It has great ventilation and comes with a removal liner for summer riding. Check them out @ belstaffusa.com.

Great point on Brockton Cycle. I live about 15 miles form BC, and bought my FieldSheer Mag1 there year early last year. They do have a great selection - huge showroom and inventory, and real riders on staff. While there I tried nearly every mesh jacket they had in that price range (the FS was on sale for $129 - yee-ha!).
The fit and quality of construction and materials were the final determining factor. Great jacket for the money - I've been extremely please with it. A rain cover or liner would have, SHOULD have been included with this (or any) such jacket. But I keep a trash bag in my saddlebags just in case.

+1 For Joe Rocket Phoenix. Well put together, the looks fit my style (grey and black), and the protection is great. The 'waterproof' liner is more of a velcro/snap in fitted trash bag though... meaning it doesn't breath at all. Bit it works in a pinch, like during this weeks monsoons I just tossed the liner in my backpack just in case.

The Phoenix actually has two layers of armor, the removable and the sewn in, which is pretty cool. The fit isn't right if you take out the removable armor, so you might as well leave it in.

The rigours of my daily life hasn't ruined it yet, so I guess it holds up well. Handles Vegas heat OK.

yeah, I was a little nervous at first handing them the ol' credit card via the internet but, the jacket was great and the transaction completely painless. I will defiintely order from them again. Think I'll wait until around January and get that High Temp jacket for about 80 bucks.

I have numerous Fieldsheer items (boots, pants, 3 jackets). I have always been happy with them. I have the fieldsheer Mach 4 mesh/leather, very nice, cool, and came with a nice raincoat.

I own a couple of Fieldsheer jackets. My mesh mach 3 with rain overcoat is top quality and would recommend it has a great summer jacket with removable armor in the back, shoulders, and elbows.
When the weather is hot it is very tempting to ride without protection. Sure makes sense to me to go with a mesh product.
