So has anyone traded their old (large) licence plate in for the new smaller one?
I saw one the other day and what a difference.
I just wondered what all was involved in switching them out at the DMV.

I'm going to wait until summer to replace mine.

I think we'll have to pay for a replacement tag, but I don't mind because my tag is all butchered up between my Leo's anyway. A new smaller one will look 100% better.

Started Oct 1, 2008. Wonder how much it would cost to switch over.

I'm taking the plunge. I downloaded THIS FORM from the MVA website. It says it's $20 for "substitute plates with stickers". There is a "reason" block, I'm just going to put that my tags are damaged.

The new ones are 7 inches by 4 inches. The old ones measure 8 1/2 inches by 4 1/2 inches.

I called the MVA on Friday and the helpful (if you can believe that) woman on the other end told me that all I need is my plate, registration card and proof of insurance.
She did not mention any cost but I'm sure there will be.
$20.00 is worth it if you ask me.

I sent in the form I linked above, but I have "Military Related" tags (like the organizational tags), so they sent it back and told me was $25 (for me). When I got the new tags that were the same size as the old tags. WTF! I then went to MVA for an unrelated trip and talked to a nice girl (yes, at the MVA!) and she said she'd take care of it. (and I did not have to pay again) About three weeks later I got the new tags.

I would suggest you go to MVA in person if you have the time and take care of it to avoid any confusion. I have a Gen6 with the CW fender eliminator, and the new tags fit (with slight trimming) between the Leo's nicely. I'll take a pic later.

    FrankoQ,

The whole swap out was so easy I don't even remember paying anything.
I just checked my paperwork and can't find a receipt.
But if it did cost me anything it had to be less than $20.00.

    Just do it!

Oh, and the smaller plate looks so much better.

It sure does. I was riding behind my wife on her bike (w/ new tag) and another bike (w/ old tag) and that old tag just looks HUGE compared to the new one.
