    Hey Gang,
Not really happy with the performance of the rear brake on my vf500. I noticed the disc is looking pretty grooved. Is there a decent replacement out there or can I have this one turned? I have never tried to have a MC disc turned is it possible or are they too thin?
In the meanwhile I am going to bleed the heck out of the rear MC to try to remove the spongy feeling and get some firmness back.

Never heard of anyone turning a motorcycle brake rotor. If the rotor isn't drilled or slotted its possible. You would have to find someone that has the right adapters to put it on a brake lathe. Almost all brake rotors have a min thickness stamped on them. A service manual should also have a min thickness measurement.

If the rotor is heavily grooved it probably isn't worth the hassle. Better off finding a replacement. Have you tried ebay?

Yeah, I saw one on ebay for cheap. I have a good relationship with the machine shop but i've never heard of anyone turning them so I wanted to check.
    Thanks.

I would definitely go the E Bay route, plus new pads, plus sanding the E Bay disc with a DA sander and 320 grit paper to remove glaze and embedded crud. Your rear brake will have a grip like a lobsters handshake!

I wouldn't recommend turning a rotor as thin as a motorcycle rotor because its soo thin it deflects pressure when you put it on a lathe. What will happen is the outer part of the rotor will get machined less then the inner because the rotor will deflect more as the cutting bit goes outboard and might cause a tapered rotor.
