Maybe trading/selling my rwb second gen..

    So I'm thinking about selling or trading my '86 700. I love the bike but I'd really like to get something smaller/more nimble as I do a fair amount of commuting on it and honestly I want something a little more common so i don't feel like i'm messing up a collectors item. Just wanted to see A, if anyone might be interested in trading on here and B, how much you think it might be worth. Before selling I'll probably clean the carbs up, do a new chain, and do fluids and whatnot.

    ~24500 miles and counting
    new plugs
    new R/R
    decent tires
    fairings are in pretty good shape, not show perfect but pretty decent. The bike got knocked over once and scraped the front fairing slightly (I removed the side fairings for fear of this happening) and broke the clutch lever, which was replaced.
    Just cleaned K&N filter
    Supertrapp pipes, possibly other mods

    Any thoughts? I was hoping to maybe trade for an NT650 (i know, not that much more common =P) or a ducati monster, something of that sort. Thoughts?

    aren't you supposed to put on new sprockets when you put on a new chain? Someone has an 86 VFR700 listed for $2300 about an hour from me.

    I suppose so, but the point is all the maintenance stuff would be done prior...

    This is off topic but it's been bothering me, and the title of your post makes me say this:

    what the hell does rwb mean? I'm new to this site and vfr's in general and I've never seen this term before ... at least not abbreiviated.

    Something to consider is parts availability for the Hawk GT. If its your commuter you don't want to be waiting on back order parts. Also they are on the small side.

    Not really much problem getting Hawk parts, and they're SO much lighter, narrower and lower than the VFR ! Not as good for shlepping passengers, but better fuel mileage and handling. Far better suited to urban commuting and a very, very active website @ Hawk GT Forum

    Its your ride so you untimately must decide. I just recently passed on a Hawk GT650.
    I felt the VFR700 would suit my needs more. I unfortunately do not have room for
    three bikes(my other ride is a VTR1000f). I really like the feeling of the VFR700.
    Smooth nimble and White Pearl and better gas mileage than the VTR. I feel that the
    V4 is an awesome motor. Very nice gear drive whine. Decent pull from through out the
    power band. Actually ride it more than my VTR.

    Nice Bike! Worth Keeping( IMHO:))

    Just my 2 cts.

    Man, I would love to get a Hawk but I would have to dump one of my 750's and the wife would still ride me about having three bikes.

    I second that a Hawk would definitely be better suited for urban riding than the RWB (I have one of each in the garage, but my wife won't let me ride her Hawk...). 50mpg, but only 50hp (with mods). Then again, it's only about 400lbs. And parts are easy to come by (sorta). The bikes are still popular enough with the racers that there's lots of options. Maybe not STOCK items, but items nonetheless. And like here, HawkGT is a great forum. When we were replacing the transmission output shaft in the wife's Hawk, they were an indispensable source of information and encouragement.

    OTOH, an SV650 is dirt cheap, light, economical, and parts out the wazoo.

    When I was inquiring with the owner of the HawkGt, I talked for some time.
    I did a little research and told him that in the category the Hawk is in I
    would be more inclined to buy a SV650.

    ( Even though I am Honda thru and thru).

    He told me that if he did not already have the Hawk(from brand new)
    He would have bought an SV650. Better performance, more power , newer and
    easier to get parts(stock and after market).

    He just was not using the bike and felt that he was too old to ride it anymore :( !!

    The SV650 might be a viable option to consider, but I still like my VFR. I would think
    that parts availability for the SV would be the easiest to obtain, now and in the future.

    Plan Well, Ride Hard,and Ride Well..

    I've actually been riding the bike a ton and I really like it, I'm just getting crap gas mileage and sometimes when i'm parking it in the parking garage at school I can't help but wish I had something lighter. A pretty big part of me just wants to throw some springs in the forks, find a nice rear shock and keep this thing. One of my pipes looks pretty black and wet, makes me think I'm running rich in a cylinder. Time for some carb work I guess...

    I suppose I'll just wait for a dirt cheap SV650 and have both
