    Hi everyone,

There is plenty of info on maintenance.

I have a 2001 blue gen 5 VFR 800. I have picked it up and it has 51k on it.

    Tomorrow I am changing:

    Oil filter
    Oil
    Spark plugs
    Coolant
    Chain lube

I have a new air filter on the way.

That is a good start but I was wondering what I should ask for when I take the bike in to honda at about 55,000.

Any specific things you would recommend I ask for?

The mechanic is fairly trustworthy so its not about that. I'd just like to ensure I do as much as possible to keep my baby ship-shape.

Let me know what you think..

our changing chain lube?....looks good. If you want to spend the money have your valve clearances checked....I would bet theat they aren't out of spec enough to worry about,, but doing the basic stuff that you are doing (add fork oil and brake and clutch fluid as well) be sure to check your voltage T o ensure that your R/R is working properly.

As far as the brake and clutch fluid. Have him purge each system of the old so there is ALL new fluid in the lines, calipers and slave cylinder with DOT4. It makes a difference in how they work and it gets any moisture out that gets absorbed in to them thru vents and rubber hoses.

Will get forks, brakes and clutch all checked by the experts.

    Hi Pap,
    +1 to all said before.

I know it should be done before each ride. But cold tyre (tire) pressure check.
I just recently pulled my tank off and emptied the tank. I was surprised at the amount of crap in it.
So if you have the time.
I also just changed chain and sprockets. Even for a slow, milk crate sittin, repair manual reading office worker like myself, it was an easy job. I couldnt believe how badly the chain was sitting. It really quietened it down. Also gave me a chance to clean all the crap behind the front sprocket. I bought the chain rivet tool which you can use if you want to do the job.
    Anyway, good luck with it
