Hi, I stumbled on your awesome site looking for some information. I know nothing about VFR's. I currently have a mint condition 94 ST1100. There is someone who has a 96 VFR totally stock with 11k miles and Givi hard bags that he wants to trade me for my ST. I am having trouble finding detailed information about the powerplant of the 96 VFR and other information. Like is it carburated or fuel injected, what's the ignition system like etc. If anyone here has the time to enlighten me, I would forever be grateful. Cheers, Scott L.
The VFR was not fuel injected until 1998. As far as the powerplant, it's a 750cc V4. 1998 was also the first year it was bumped to 800cc. What you need is some input from the 4th Gen guys as this is their bike, they can't speak about it better than I can.
Welcome. Well, your bike already has a V-4, so you are already used to that. Stewart pretty much anwered your other questions. Good job Stewie! BTW, a '96 with 11k is a pretty rare find for the most part. Low miles. Check to see how it has been operated/stored.
you know who you are going to want to talk to is RVFR is you want to be sold on the switch to a 96. He's a pretty big fan of the 4g bikes. An as,Derstuka said, that is a pretty rare find. The 4th and 5th gens are both getting fairly rare.
I have a '96 4G. Got mine with 15k last spring. Awesome bike. Paid $3,800, it was MINT. Rode it 215 miles home on the interstate, very comfy, even with the stock seat. I'm the 3rd owner. The engine is obviously rotated 90 degrees from your ST, and about 350 cc's smaller. But the ST is about 200 lbs.(? - WAG) heavier. It's carbureted, 4 Keihin single barrels. Ignition system is four individual coils, one per cylinder. I wish my bike had Givi bags, but that feature would have blown my bike budget of $4,000. If you're looking for a bike that can eat up the curves AND do extended trips, the VFR is for you. Upright riding position makes every ride enjoyable. I love it - that's why I'm here!
