Hi - I currently ride a Suzuki M50. While it's been a sweet ride for 16,000 miles I love what I see and especially HEAR from the VFR bikes. That whirring purr you can hear on the 2010 VFR 'teaser' website is awesome. I want to step up my motorcycling to the next level and a VFR looks and sounds right.

It's funny, my V-twin M50 actually kind of purrs on takeoff, with the stock exhaust that's real quiet.
I doubt I'd have the cash ($20K?) for the coming new 2010 1200 VFR but maybe I could do up to $10K for a good used one.

My question to those in the know here is, which of the years 2007 - 2009 is the best VFR overall? And is there one year which has the most upright ergos? It would be great to have a bike with a more "standard" riding position vs, leaning over so much as with most sportbikes clipons' Thanks for any insights!

yep, as Long stated, from 02-09 they are all the same, except for the vtec activation rpm is different after 05 or something. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

You can pick up a good used VFR for less than $6K, even less than $5K. And some stealerships are selling brand new leftover models for between $6-7K.

The world is your oyster; shuck it, man. Just shuck it.

Any 6th Gen VFR with less than 10,000 miles is pretty much as good as new in my opinion. These bikes are well built and the engines and are very dependable and can easily go over 100,000 miles with proper normal maintanence. As previously mentioned, the 02-09 models are essentially the same except for the colors and the VTEC engagement point which was lowered in 06 from 6800 rpm to 6400 rpm. You can't go wrong with a used VFR in my opinion. Right now is a buyers market and I've seen some great deals on used VFR's with all the goodies already included (aftermarket exhaust, hard cases, aftermarket seat, risers, etc.) Just make sure you ride a 6th Gen VFR before you buy it because some people like myself find the VTEC engine to be pretty annoying but manageable. Also keep in mind that the 02-05 models had a wiring recall so if you pick up a used bike from that year range make sure that the recall was done.

    Regards,
    Rollin

Yep, identical bikes...if you look at ebay you can find many '07s for less than $8,000 new. Many dealerships will have them for that money as well because the 07's are on factory rebate right now. Nobody really knows what the 2010's are going to be like in terms of how sporty or how tourie. Looks like the best bet is on the touring side. The one thing that all VFR's share is that V4 sound. I can assure that a properly piped '07 will sound deep and smooth. Some have compared the sound to a highly tuned small block V8. Kind of like listening to Metallica playing Mozart, or is it the other way around?

All VFR's are more upright than a standard sportbike and very comfortable stock off of the showroom floor. If it's not enough there are severaly ways to increase the bar height at varying costs.
