I've only had the bike for a week and after a nice 3 hour ride I returned home to find that I had lost my tail light and both the upper and lower pieces that it fits into. Finding it would be impossible since most of the drive was over 7 different freeways and at those speeds who knows where it landed. Do I have any options other than buying a whole new assembly like mounting a replacement light or switching to leds or something to be legal. This is the last thing I expected before taking the ride and the weather is so beautiful I can't stand just looking at my bike sitting there.

Go buy a dirt bike taillight to get you back on the road and then watch FleaBay for the OEM replacement parts

Turns out I lost it less than 1/2 mile from my house just before exiting the freeway. Looks like it got the crap kicked out of it yet it might be possible to salvage it until the right parts come up on ebay. The red lens is broke about an inch in from the edge. All the wiring is there and even one of the bulbs survived. The rest of the lens though has black tar or tire marks all over it and wondered if that can be buffed out or removed with some chemicals?

Maybe it's time to give all the nuts and bolts a once over on your ride.

Meguires plastic polish works great to buff out scuff marks and tire marks (don't ask...different bike long ago) also, to fix the broken corner, put it on a flat surface with some 100 grit sandpaper and bevel off the corner so it is a nice flat triangular shaped hole. then glue on a flat red reflector like the ones on each side of the back of your bike. Then take a dremil tool and mill away everything that overhangs. You'll be impressed with how good it looks when you're done if you take your time.

That was the plan for the weekend as all of my parts that I ordered came in (k&n filter, sprockets, chain, plugs, coolant, oil and filter, and new bar ends)
I forgot to mention that the tabs were broken and the tail was only together with pipe cement and electrical tape, hangs head, until I could get some replacement tail pieces.

Learned the hard way since I was worried about something coming loose but only riding it home from buying it until fixed properly was just too much to ask. It's my first bike and after 8 days of riding the freeway and backwoods twisties I'm hopelessly addicted.
