Yeah pretty much cover all base. One thing you forgot to mention look for the idiot looking down at his phone or holding it to his head. Had a turd yesterday clip his mirror and then though it was my fault and he was playing around on his phone. Told his ass to pull over and lets get the police involved... Well I'm going to go do some lane splitting myself right now off to work.

If that trip takes an hour and fifteen minutes lane splitting on a bike how long does it take in a cage? Just curious.

If it takes an hour to go from point A to point B then the city is too big. I don't know why cities weren't built in sections with miles of space between them instead one gigantic infestation.

I was starting out in Burbank and heading to Orange.....roughly 60 miles. Takes about an hour with no traffic. 1:30 average, and since it was a Friday....about 2:30 hours. I did it in about an hour, only burning about 2.5 gallons of gas because I was going so slow.

Never a problem on the bike... Sorry, but if you sit in that $#!+ day in/day out, while driving/riding any vehicle that does not have the ability to lane split; you're a freaking idiot. Either that or you just love inching along while listening to talk radio...

They do just that in Texas. It's called the Houston-Dallas-San Antonio Metroplex. All three have infestations of roaches..

Have a death wish? Do it long enough you will get a big drink or an open door.

Thats what I was thinking. lol

I don't know how you can die when you are going so slow. I was going about 15 mph when it started packing up.

It all depends on how you approach it. I live in the Sacramento area, but also commute ot San Jose often. Without lane splitting it would take forever and the bike would certainly overheat. In bumper to bumper traffic, if you lane split at reasonable speed, 15-20 MPH you should be safe. Even if you were to catch a door, death would likely not be the outcome. The problem comes from those that think they can lane split bumper to bumper traffic doing 45-50 MPH or faster in some cases. Even worse are the ones that like to lane split when traffic is actually moving at 65-70 MPH.
When I ride and lane split, I look at being on a bike as a privilage. Just like with any privilage, if you abuse it you will pay for it one way or another. This could come in the form of an open door, drink tossed out a cage window or a new law that removes this privilage. Be safe an be smart!

Ain't this the truth, When I lane split, I don't go any faster than 20-35 when it really starts bunching up. When traffic is moving at 55, the gaps tend to get bigger so I'll move up when I can. Yesterday, I merged with a guy on a TL1000, the dude was splitting lanes at 50 mph, and I didn't see him after that because he was going so fast.

Not to worry guys, about a week in the commute on the LA Freeway system and ol Camo would be singing the praises of lane splitting.

It was an interesting video. Kind of like those movies where they run fish hooks through their cheeks. You know something bad is going to happen and you just can't stop watching. California is a totally alien culture to me, never catch me there. Glad that you guys like as you wouldn't fit in here. Just I wouldn't fit in there.

Camo is from Amish Country. Nice folks but many Amish children have serious genetic flaws from years of inbreeding. I guess no place is perfect, even LA.

you might be surprised. I lived in Misery, er Missouri most of my life. I lived some of my childhood in Mississippi. I even spent time serving in the military in Montana. I felt like I fit in in all of them, but mostly in California, because out here I have the freedom to be whomever I like. Not a big stretch for me since I'm a pretty average dude, but I like the fact that other people are allowed to be free, too. It doesn't matter if you are black, yellow, brown, red, green, purple, straight, gay, undecided, left wing, right wing, middle of the road, tree hugger, or gun toting NRA. All are here and somehow we manage to live together in the same damn state.

I been splitting lanes for 7 years solid and I can tell you this mobile phones have impacted traffic and makes the whole drive take longer. People just chattering or txting away stopping when the should be going and swerving like a drunk man. After doing it for 7 years I catch myself getting what I would like to call "lane split tunnel vision" where your speed doesn't seem to slow down even though traffic is near a dead stop. You look down and your doing 45-50 mph and your in a a gap of about 3 feet total and you have to tell yourself breath and back it off.

As far as motorcycle mine is a silver/grey gen 6. I can tell you with out a doubt I tried sitting in traffic one time I had to pull off the free way and let the bike sit for about 15 mins because it just heat soaks from the traffic and ground. Old bike my brother had but it posted heat temp of 244 and fan would just keep cooking and climbing if i didn't turn and get off.

I noticed with the VFR I have to keep the oil a bit on the low side of oil not to the full mark on the glass or again I get higher motorcycle temps because the oil soaks the heat and then keeps the block hot longer.

If motorcycles couldn't split lanes in CA you would have a bunch of dead motorcycles coming out of the California state with seized blocks or warped heads. Don't know how those Harley guys sling all that metal around. Had one guy in front of me today just jetting away from me.
