I just took delivery of a 2005 non ABS bike with 4000 miles, it was purchased new in May 2008.

I've ridden 200 miles on it this past weekend.

I've been riding many different bikes over the years and am an experienced rider.

In one way I like the docile nature of the motor below 7000rpm but on the other hand for a 780cc 100hp motor I really expect more torque and grunt.

My last bike was an 1800cc Yamaha cruiser that was an experiment and I won't be getting another cruiser, before that it was a 150hp Yamaha V-Max (after market pipes and jetted) which was like taking off on the space shuttle but no good in the corners.

I thought it time to get into a sport tourer and love the feel of my beautiful VFR but I would like to feel like it had more low end pull without me having to wring the living daylights out of the throttle.

Please don't take this as a personal dig against the bike I am just looking for relatively inexpensive ways for me to get what I would like from this otherwise beautiful machine. It has a full Scorpion oval system on it.

    Thanks for any tips

One down and two up on the sprockets is your best bet, if you don't do so much highway riding. O2 eliminators and a power commander will help some with the low end torque and really smooth things out, but it won't turn it in to one of the stump pullers that you are used to though. There is always the toro supercharger... lol

I have a Power Commander and O2 Elim for sale, that with my Two Bros can and a K&N Air filter solved the same issue for me! I just took all of that stuff off my '07 and drove it, I could not believe the difference! Just an idea!

you need to re-gear: going -1 at front sprocket and +2 or + 3 at rear would give u what u want.......

The man said without revving the nuts off it. -1 at the front OR +2 or +3 at the rear will achieve the desired result. Both would mean VERY low gearing & the thing would drink fuel for a past time. Sort the Fi with a PC111 or 5 & open the airbox to allow it to breathe.

The quickest cheapest way would be to change your paradigm and enjoy it, the VFR is a much smaller capacity engine than you are used to with a reasonably high 12,000RPM redline so expect to use Revs when you want to go. It really doesn't have that much low end torque but it does have a usefully Linear midrange for me starting above 5K that's also good for traction and limiting gear changing through the twisties I tend to use 5.8k to 9.8K range a lot when riding with purpose. The expensive but possibly more suitable option might be to trade your 800 for the VFR1200.

What am I missing here? This thread is from 2009. You think the original poster hasn't either made a change or sold the bike 3 years later?
