I am looking at buying a used VFR. Recently inspected a 99 model with 48,000km. The owner is asking $5200. The bike will probably need tires soon although it looks clean. Is this a good price? Seems high compared to what I've compared to for sale in the US but I have not seen any others for sale in my area I can compare to. What problem areas should I be sure to check?

    Time to Sell the Bike

I'm selling my black 2006 800ABS  and gear (two Cortech jackets, Icon leather overpants, SHOEI F1000 helmet and a lot of other odds and ends). Am 57 years old and my wife won't get on the back, so I'm going to buy a sailboat instead.

I have really enjoyed this bike. I bought it new in the fall of 2007 and put it right into winter storage. I then had two great riding seasons. It has about 16,000 km and is stock except for Helibars. I replaced the original tires once with Battlax BT021's. They're in good shape. I live 2 hours outside of Ottawa where I saw the same bike at a dealer asking close to $11k. Obviously, I'm not asking for that much. Yes, prices in the US are much better. We Canadians are getting ripped off.

    Jeff,

Have you considered selling the wife instead?

    Just wondering.

twowheels - IMHO, the '98/'99 bikes are the sweetest. Buy it.

    Carry On ~

Hey twowheels - that sounds a little high for the mileage and it needs tires. Not sure where in Canada you are but I think $4200-4400 is more like it, if it's straight. If it's NOT red or yellow, they seem to fetch more for being a little more rare.

See if it has an upgraded regulator/rectifier - only real issues with these.

    Good luck -great bike!

twowheels, I've put up my '00 5th gen with 37600 km's for $4500. It's really clean with only a couple of little scratches. Unless the ride is in pristine condition, the price is a little much for the year and mileage, but it is the low time of year to sell. In this buyers market, you could get a better deal. 5th gens are the way to go mate!

You can get '06's with about 6,000 kms for about $8,000, so $5200 for a '99 with 48,000 kms seems to high a price to me. I'd offer $4,000.

I just picked up my '99 with 20K miles for 3300USD about two weeks ago. There are good deals to be had!
