Hello, Im a brand new rider with about 4 months of riding under my belt. My first bike is a Cb700sc nighthawk that I got for $800 w/ 82xxx miles on it. I've been riding almost everyday because I use it to go to school, running errands, and use it to go to work. Work is 40 miles round trip so it gets its daily share of miles. I've been spending small amounts of money here and there to keep the bike running, and of course with almost 86xxx miles put on it, this bike is going to break before the end of the year. I'm considering a VFR as a replacement seeing that the engine size and bike weights are almost the same. Plus, the VFR's sound AWESOME! Half a v-8 sound is distinct! I was considering maybe getting a 86-87 vfr 750 or 700 (any power differences with the 700?) or a 90-94's. Either way, I'm not wanting to spend more than $2500 for a bike that I'm going to ride everyday. Let me know what you guys think. I know alot of you have the newer VFR's but I like being different and old school....and I'm 25. Alot of guys my age have GSXRs, CBRs, ZX's, and crotch rockets that crazy fast, but aren't different. They all sound the same unless you buy a $1000 exhaust. Anyways, sorry for the ranting....let me know your opinions.

Welcome to the world. I gotta put in my vote for the gen3. SSSA and 8 spoke rear are great selling points. And the RC36 poweplant.

welcome to the world... let me suggest that if this is your primary transportation don't get a second gen(86-89) think how old the bike is and parts are getting really hard to find. I have an 86 VFR 700 and I love it. but it is ( 2010 minus 1986 equals 24) 24 years old and I ride it every day to and from school but I also have a Pick up truck to drive if it breaks. So think about that one before you buy a second gen bike.. now a third gen some say is the best generation to buy ( its mostly the guys/gals that own the 3rd gen) this is probably the sweetest looking body panels wise of all the VFR's plus you get the SSSA. also this gen will have less miles that the 2nd gen.. BUT they are hard to find. folks are holding these bike close to their bosom and not selling... They would rather sell their first born child than the bike.. It can be found but they are a hard find.

I hope that this didn't deter you from the 2nd gens cause personally I like it the best ( nostalgic for me ) I owned an 86 vfr700 in 1988 and had a blast with her till she got mangled....

good luck and I hope you find the gal for you...

I have a nissan titan that has hauled my nighthawk around everytime it broke. lol So the bike is not my primary means on transportation but I would like it to be the most widely used over my truck :)
