Hi, just bought an original 1984 VFR1000 interceptor, looking for a master mechanic in Santa Rosa, Ca. or thereabouts to help me restore it. It runs fine, but is leaking fork fluid, needs tires and brakes, and is a bit sluggish at throttling, though torquee and strong. 35k miles, may need valves, timing chain, etc. I had an '85 750 years ago, fond memories, couldn't pass this model up though it needed work. I'm not so concerned with the cosmetics (all plastic there, just some repairable cracks and worn paint... original seat marked "1000" is still intact, though sun worn!). More with getting it tuned and safe to ride for the fall. I've been to dealers before and it can get expensive dialing in an old classic like this. Looking for an enthusiast to guide me in restoration without breaking my bank. I'm patient and in this for the long run. Any referrals? Thanks, Dan Viele 707-545-2764
Hi Dan, Welcome to the group. I dont live on west coast so I can't do much other than welcome you here. You can check out the member map and see what members are close to you. I would venture to say someone here probably knows a mech. If you are a do-it yourself kind of guy, there is probabyl some info in the Mechanics Garage forum that may be helpful. I remember the 84 FR's clearly as I loved the looks and the fact it was a V-4. Again, welcome aboard and we are glad to have uo here. :-D
