    Hey guys,
My brother inlaw lives in Sydney and runs a KTM 650 motard type machine that has just suffered a cam bearing failure. The dealer is quoting huge numbers to deal with this so I figured I would reach out to see if there are any specialists that work from home or in a small shop that may be more reasonable.

    Any suggestions would be welcome!

    Thanks Mr. Long

Unfortunately that link won't work for me here at work. There must be some stimulating images on that site that my employer doesn't want me to see. :blue:

who in oz, would you say is a ktm specialist workshop?? found some serious metal on my drain plug last oil change. think a circlip in trans has failed and one of the gears is rooted. anyways the cases need to come apart and its exceeds my ability. so wheres a good workshop.
btw i am on the south coast nsw, so the closer, the better
    cheers

I'm a bit biased mate but I would say Caldecott Motors in Keith, SA bit far for you to come for a rebuild though....

I use and recommend Bruce's in Mitchell, Canberra mate. IMHO he is second to none in Canberra:tick.

He also rides KTM too, knows what he is talking about and will give you a no bullshit service.

    Give him a call on (02) 6241-1723

yeah....... but im pretty sure there shouldnt be any metal bits floating around in the oil. they should be connected to the parts themselves.
so your saying i shouldnt be concerned?

maybe not, can u post a pic? hop onto ktm.talk too for advice, some of those guys are anal but very helpful

are "metal bits" actual chunks or filings that were stuck onto your magnetic bit in the drain plug?

there were a few "chunks" or largish pieces. ive posted it up on ktmtalk already with pics. one piece was of the drain plug itself.

looks like the bits may have come from the locking level bearing shield. took the clutch cover off to find the shield missing today. ordered a new locking lever and gasket. hopefully thats all it was

    Thanks to everyone!

I have forwarded the comments along to my bro. I think he is a bit pissed off with the KTM but I don't know how well it was maintained so I'm not sure if his anger is warranted or not.
