Been a while since I posted here, I sold my '91 VFR750. I hated to do it but I couldn't justify keeping her, she needed about $500 in maintenace repairs (tires, brakes, fork seals, starter clutch) and I figured it would be best to sell her and just get something newer for a little more money.

I was able to ditch the ol girl for $1,400 and now i'm looking at a 2003 Honda VFR800 in silver this weekend.

It has 13,400 miles and is a 2 owner bike, sounds like an older gentleman too, it appears to be in very good clean condition, hopefully the photos don't lie!

Anyway... I'm excited to look at it, hopefully I don't have any of the reliability woes most of you have for these early model vtec vfrs. I'm hoping to scoop it up for $3,300 but if it's clean I should get it for $3,500 (he's asking $3,800 obo)

Main things i'm going to ask about it is the charging system, recalls performed, etc. along with my general look over of the bike.

Hopefully this Saturday i'll be posting pics of my new ride, if not then the search will continue.

I'm sure you're aware that using things like, chain/sprockets, tires, brake pads, etc. can help lower the price. Good luck on your search.

Yup, I looked at the tires in the picture and they look like they need to be replaced anyway... so i'm expecting him to knock off at minimum $300 for that... then i'll just point out nit pick things and mention how it's a 14 year old bike and KBB value is $3,200 blah blah blah and see if I can get to my magic 3300 number. If not then i'll still be happy paying 3500 if the bike is as clean as it looks.

I wouldn't worry as much about the charging system as I would about the condition of the chain, sprockets, fluids, etc ... (general maintenance).

Both my 2002's I've rewired the charging system myself (even with the recalls) so I don't have to worry about it on my long trips.

    Will do :)

You wouldn't happen to have a write-up of how you did your charging system? I probably won't touch it but I will definitely add some sort of volt meter onto my dash to monitor it and if it ever goes i'll be sure to fix it properly.

    See Post #2 from me ... ;)

This is the second bike I've done it to ... not a single regret.

My 2004 is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Don't worry.

Oh and always best to bring a motorcycling buddy, two sets of eyes are always best when checking over the bike, misaligned body panels etc..........
Maintenance records are a plus as well.
Hopefully it's as good as you hope.
    Good luck

Well guys, I am the new proud owner of a 2003 VFR800. I scooped her up for $3,400... I could have gotten her for less but oh well, I paid a fair price for an awesome bike. She's SUPER clean, completely stock except for the grips and I love her.

My plans are simple... Heated grips, delvic slip on exhaust, volt gauge, and that's about it.

Anyway... enough with that... here's pictures!
