    Hello everyone,
Looking to get my first bike and love the VFR. Need some advise on one I'm lookin at.

The guy that has it is selling it because it doesn't run. He said 3 months ago it ran great but it has sat for a little while and now it won't start. I am thinkin he did not winterize it properly and now the carbs are all gumed up and it wont start. He says is turns over it just doesn't wanna start. I am pretty mechanical and can probably firgure it out pretty easily.

The other problem the bike is that after 15 min the stator stops working and at 30 min the battery goes dead, according to him. He said he had a new stator and new rectifier on in May but still has this problem. Anyone have any ideas? Dont think there is much to the charging system of a VFR, could be as simple as some cables need to be replaced. Seeing as how this was replaced in May I think I would be safe in saying that the bike has probably sat a lot longer then he is letting on and now it needs some maintanance to get it up and running again.

Any help you can provide me with would be great. He wants a 1000 bucks, but I havent gone and looked at it yet, just want some adivise from the experts before I do.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

If its all there and in good shape, jump on it. Everything so far sounds simple enough to correct.

These are definitely the 2 guys I would have wanted to post so if they say grab it I would, assuming the body is fairly straight.

    Gummed up carbs, easy.

Charging issues after 30 minutes with new components, wiring harness. Again, easy.

If you can get it home, buy it.

There are still replacement parts available for everything.

I sold my 91 for 3800$ two years ago...but it was mint and had extras. It recently resold for 2800$...the owner needed money and the bike had acquired some bodywork damage. Unless it's really trashed, the deal you're looking at sounds pretty good.
