I am in the market for tires and was wondering What are the longest lasting tires for a 91 vfr 750f?

I have tried Metzler, conti, avon, and michelin and dunlop and I am now confused...and cant remember..

I think the Metzlers were the best overall. I am looking for a Sport touring tires as I am often caught in the rain.

    Can anyone offer any advice?

    Thanks

I'll add to the mix: Bridgestone BT021, although I do not have much rain experience with any kind of tires. I've read that they do well in the wet, FWIW.

I only got 6400km on oem dunlop 204's , 10000km on bridgestone BT020 , 10000km on Dunlop roadsmart. My fav is the roadsmart( how it handles rain or shine)

I'm pretty sure all Dunlop motocycle tires are "Sportmax" - its just what model they are - Qualifier, Q2, RoadSmart, D204, D206, etc......

As ST tires go the Michelin Road 2 NCTs are hard to beat but there are just released Perelli Angel ST or newly updated Metzeler Roadtec Z6 Interacts that you could try out for us with a ride report. :thumb:

I'd second the Bridgestone recommendation. The Bridgestone BT20s fitted as original kit on my UK bike had done just short of 16,000 miles when I got the bike from a firm who had used it for regular tours around Europe for trips to Spain and the Isle of Man TT race circuits (so the bike had been really hammered at times). Even so the tyres still had ample tread but with so many motorway miles it had developed a very distinct flat on the centre-line of the tyre. So I persuaded the dealer to replace them with the new version of the same tyre the BT21. Its basically a multiply tyre with a harder wearing centre strip - so it should handle even more motorway miles than the last set, but it also has very sticky sidewall strips made with a different compound - which is really brilliant when riding out here in the Alps as it gives great confidence to lean the bike right over on the Z bends - so no chicken strips for me.

I second the Shinko 009 6000 miles out of my first set. And the front and back wore out about the same time. $168 for the set, just can't beat'em

Dual compound tires are the way to go, absolutely no doubt. Go with Michelin road 2s, Bridgestone BT021, Dunlop Roadsmarts, for high miles and good side grip. You know the old saying.... you get what you pay for. Shop around you can find them reasonably priced.

I'll say what I always say, the shinkos will last really well for a tire that costs what they cost. if you don't mind that you are riding a shinko, you can save a lot of money. I am not a fan of the profile of the shinko. it turns in a little slow to me. The grip is not as good as some of the sportier tires, but I will say this, the shinkos I tried (007 I think) lasted me longer than any other tire I have tried, and I do NOT take it easy on tires. I ride on and off the pavement with my VFR. A lot of the people who give a negative review of them have never put one on their bike for whatever reason.

All that being said, the best set of tires to me are the ones I can get that grip decent, last fairly well, and don't cost me an arm and a leg. Twice a year cyclegear (a popular motorcycle store of the chain store variety) puts on a sale where you can get pirelli diablos for under $200 a set. These are what I have been running quite a bit. I go through 2-3 sets of tires per year depending on my current injury list so tire cost is a big factor for me.
