The undercover NYPD detective now charged with taking part in a bike gang’s assault on an SUV is not the only police officer who may have crossed the line between cop and biker. Across the country, say experts, that line has grown blurry as the number of active police officers joining and forming motorcycle clubs has soared.

I am getting sick of being lumped in with "bikers". I much prefer the moniker motorcyclist. I am not a hooligan nor a pirate. But as soon as someone finds out that I ride, they picture me as a pirate or a squid. Thanks again news media for beating a dead horse until it is all anyone can think of.

Yep, i heard a young 4 or 5 year old girl point to me getting off the bike and say to her mom "There's that bad guy !"

Here, i know definitely of color-wearing klub memaaaaaz that be cops, a notorious klub i would not dare name, periodically involved with non-legal escapades.:hss: Naturally, i'm pissed cuz one of those gang members in cop uniform stopped me 68 yo, 5'4") on the VFR for a trivial offense that deserved a ticket......but i ended up getting pepper-sprayed, thrown down and cuffed, with elbow damage that required a cast and limited movement for 3 weeks. Fuckin cops here can get away with the sort of abuse you'd expect in any 3rd world backwater. And my insurance had to pay about $2500 for services.

I of course cannot speak for all police officers, but I regularly ride with two of them and know two more of varying years of experience. One guy is working to become an officer and one is going on 20 years on the force. It appears to me that in the beginning they are mostly normal everyday people that really want to help their community or even to try and atone for their younger selves actions. But as the years of dealing with the trash of society wear on them, they become more jaded and cynical towards the public. I can completely understand it, but unfortunately they made the choice to make their living that way.

The two that I ride with are a Highway Patrol and a city cop with around 10-ish years experience. They just want to ride with some friends and forget about the crappy day they had. No biker gang mentality or desire.
