    Hello all,

I'm a bit mystified t the moment. On way home this evening the engine suddenly cuts out, much like turning the ignition off.
I flick the engine kill switch off and on again and try the starter and all is back to normal. Moments late it happens again.
When I get home (5 or 6 times it happens), I test a few things. I can get it to happen again by turning the dipped beam lights on and switching on highbeam. Almost instantly the electrics reset. If I only use the parking lights, all is ok. I have tested thsi theory several times and everytime I go to high or dipped beam the power goes.

I have checked the connections on the battery and they ae good. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks

It could also be a sign of a dying battery. I'd check the battery first before I start worrying about anything else. If the battery is no longer holding a charge then it can lead to a bunch of scary junk.

Sounds like he has enough juice to crank. This doesn't point to battery. His words; engine dies, flick kill switch a couple times, all is back to normal.

Question, after you turn the lights on and it dies, does it recrank normally with the starter button? There is sufficient power to crank the engine or do you need to jump start the bike with a battery charger or another vehicle?

    O2 vfr rider have right!
Check the blue connector behind the left upper cowl.
Cut the big green wire and splice it.

Hi! Have you got the problem sorted? Same thing happened to my friend's vfr. After about 5000km eurotrip only 150km from home the bike just died. He just had to ride home without lights and tomorrow we will start looking for the problem.

But on the road we figured out some things...
It looks like the bike has not enough power but the battery is ok (checked with a multimeter). As soon as you turn on enough consumers bike dies (engine stops, clocks stop working and start making weird noise). for example:
parking lights on = bike running
no lights + indicator lights = bike running
parking lights + indicators = not running
also the braking light is not working at all.

On the other hand the bike has enough power to run the starter and when lights are of the bike runs absolutely normal.

I am thinking of some bad connection because if there was some short circuit in the system then it would blow a fuse or the battery voltage would drop when turning on the lights but it barely does. I've seen a cbr with similar problem and it had broken starter relay.

    some thoughts anybody?
