Anybody know where I can get LED tailight bulbs? I went to Autozone but they didn't have anything.

That's who I bought mine from here a year ago. (The website seems pretty kobb and low-tech, but they stand behind their product and are trustworthy) The 7443's work for the signals and the brakes. I'm going to replace all mine with the Eagle Eye Towers at the top of the page, they're new since I got my old towers.

I recommend the super whites for the brakes. I tried super white's for turn signals and they just didn't look good, ended up swapping them for the ambers all around.

For the front signals, I'd recommend the SMT tower II in amber. If you do swap signals out too, pick up a resister for each side to keep the flash speed normal.

Here's what they look like. That 3watter LED on the end should do a good job of blinding people. That's a heatsink on the end.

And the older (lower power) ones I have that just aren't as bright as I hoped.

I got mine from DDM tuning.

DDM Tuning: HID and LED Lighting

here is what they look like.

Get the same color as the lens is it projecting through. For example, I got the red ones for the tailights. They are brighter than stock, light up faster and will never need replacing. Tried them for my turn signals but they flashed WAY too fast without a load resistor.

All the other ones are plug&go but the signals need either resistor to compensate the load or electric relay which I have. The problem with relay though is that if some of the signals do not work, you do not get warned by fast blinking.

Also there are some products which are used for cars using canbus wiring, which have resistor built in but I do not have any experience of those.

Also I agree with Skifreak to use same color leds as the lens is, so amber for signals, red for tail and brake light and white for park light in front. That also goes if you are replacing indicator bulbs in dash.

Sorry, no idea. I doubt, because I had separate resistors for the rear lights for my car because of the light failure indicator but the resistor became so hot, that you you could not touch it. If the bulb itself has the resistor built inside, it will probably melt any plastic around. I believe that there is some kind of electrical system to prevent the light failure detection.

Heating of the resistor in signals should be no problem because they are used only short times but still I recommend to attache them to some metallic part (frame etc.) to avoid any damage to wires or other plastic parts.

Sorry to re-start an old post but I got some 7443's LED for my tail & brake light replacement but the bulb(?) only light up when the brake is applied. Should I have boght the 7440's instead? I thought the 7443 are dual "filament".

The 7443 is the correct bulb. Did you try rotating the bulb around and plugging it in the other way? I am not an expert on this, just a suggestion.

Got those lights working. I had to fiddle with them to line up the contacts on the bulb to those in the sockets...I'll go riding tomorrow to see if the bulbs will stay in place with all the bumps on the road. If not, I'll just switch back to the stock light bulbs.
These are the ones I got from Ebay; maybe the base aren't quite the same size & the contacts don't line up well with the socket.

They're not quite as bright as I hoped.

I went ahead & ordered these...

When you have alternators putting out good voltage and these do when working correctly, what is the advantage of LED's They certainly help on old Brit bikes with poor charging but I can't see the advantages here.

For me it's the brightness over the stock bulb, and also cosmetics, I guess. But yeah, not hugely better than stock ones. Some others might disagree, though.

I used them for my dash lights because they are much brighter than stock in that application and I never have to replace them again, being that they are such a PITA to replace! Here is my dash with only one LED installed and you can see which one it is. Also did all of my idiot lights so I can see them in the daylight.

As for taillights, you have to do some digging to find ones brighter than stock, but they are out there. They also light up a tad faster than stock and never need replacing and never blow due to vibration or shock.
