I know this is getting into minutia, but I just bought a 2002 VFR and I noticed the kickstand on it is different from every other gen. 6 I've seen. The one on mine is straight and has a round foot on it, all the other ones I've seen are curved and have an oval foot on them. I guess my question is are there different shaped kickstands (maybe the first batch of 2002's had a different one). Or the OP changed the VFR one for another one from a different model bike?

Has the bike been lowered? Maybe it's a shortened stand?

Never thought of that. How do you tell if it's been lowered?

How tall are you and can you stand flat footed over it? You can check the shock mounting triangles too, but I'm not sure how they should look. Someone should be along shortly who knows exactly how to tell.

Kenji and Yoshi are twins who live in Japan and make kickstands for VFRs..When they were just little dudes their momma san dressed them alike. They rebelled and started getting different haircuts This has carried over to the manufacture of kickstands. They still look alike to this day but their kickstands and haircuts don't.

This entire subject is discussed and analyzed in detail at www.analkickstands.com.

OMG!! I have just been informed that the Fujikawa Brothers are actually triplets and brother Kwanji-san makes after market kickstands.

Anyways....on the triangles, there is an arrow and "front" etched in to them. They should be at the top of the triangle and pointed to the front of the bike. If they're in a different orientation they've been rotated to lower the rear of the bike. The big round thick foot is nothing like I've ever seen on a stock VFR, it looks shorter than stock also, assuming the return spring is the same length.

The triangle with front and the arrow is on top with the arrow pointing to the front. Maybe this will determine it: with the bike level (not on the center stand) the distance from the center of the shift lever (in neutral) to the ground is 10 inches. What is it on a stock vfr?

Is that sitting upright on the wheels or leaned over on the sidestand? Oops didn't read very well.

When you say "center of the shift lever" are you talking about the shifter shaft itself?

I measured mine, as well as I could without dropping it, and it measures about 10" from the ground to the center of the shifter shaft, give or take a half-inch.

Upright on the wheels from the center of the rubber covered shift peg that sticks out perpendicular to the shift lever to the ground on mine is 10". What is it on a stock bike?

I measured to the shifter shaft since I may have the angle of the shifter different from you. I like mine less than perpendicular to the ground.

ok. I just went back out to my carport. With the bike on the wheels and using a level to make sure it's level, I measured from the ground up to the center of the shaft the shift lever slides on to and I got 8 3/4". So taking the 10" you measured as what it should be stock, it appears it was lowered by 1 1/4". I also measured from the center of the kickstand bolt hole to the centroid of the foot and is 7".

From the centerline of the pivot to the foot mine measures about 9 1/2 inches. So yeah, it sure looks like they lowered your bike somehow. Since the triangle is oriented correctly I wonder how they did it.

I just noticed another difference between mine and a stock VFR, the triple clamp appears to have been lowered on the forks (see photo). Would this explain the lower height of my bike? Is this a recommended mod to do, and is 3" excessive? The handling of the bike seems ok, but I don't have a stock VFR to compare it to.

Holy crap, that's a lot. It's bound to steer quicker than stock, and that would definitely contribute to needing a shortened sidestand.
