    hi,

i've just joined so i hope this topic hasn't been beat to death yet! i have a 98vfr that already has an aftermarket slip-on. i was wondering if anyone could tell me about the k+n kit. what i need for sure, what kind of difference it makes, does it ruin your gas mileage on long trips?...that sort of thing. any help would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks,

    kevin

Hi Kevin, I installed a K&N filter in my 2000 VFR and I have noticed a difference in performance, although it is slight. Taking off from a stand still and starting has improved. I have not experienced any change in gas mileage. So the net is, don't expect to see a big improvement for the $60 buck you shell out for the filter and $10 for the kit to re-charge the filter. But, I feel that any improvement that is less than $100 bucks is worth it.

In addition to your K&N purchase....to make your package complete, you really need to consider a power commander to remap your sysytem because of your aftermarket slip on exhaust. Not only does your slip on make a change in sound, but performance too. Get some more opinions, but I think you will be happy you did the upgrade.

Greg is exactly right. I put a K&N and TBR slip-on on my 98 VFR and noticed a very small performance improvement. (no loss of mpg) I put on a Power Commander and uploaded a couple of maps to try out and it makes a MUCH bigger difference than the pipe or filter.

Not forgetting that the K&N is good for many years & miles. Where as the Honda one needs replacing every 800miles.

I agree with GreatBrit. The real reason that I bought mine was that I was sick of being charged £26+VAT every 8,000 miles (I'm coming up to 64,000 now!) when I can just clean up the K+N every other service for next to nothing. The increase in any power I think is negligable on it's own but when used with a free flowing exhaust then it can only help can't it? :-/
