Just thinking about what my bike is worth...

Not saying that I DO have to sell her, but I am running into a unique problem of needing a car for many things lately...and well...I might have to end up selling my 06 VFR.

Question is, since it has so many modifications and upgrades, whats it worth? It has just under 6500 miles, is Black Pearl, has a Remus Titanium exhaust, Pazzo control levers, Sargent seat, Throttlemeisters, Heli-bars, Zero Gravity windshield, fresh Avon Sport tires, BMC filter, and a full expanded tool kit (the Honda one) Thats like $1500-2000 in upgrades.


So, curiosity kills me, what is it worth?

 

It has been said before that accessories do not add value to your bike. Maybe only to someone who really wants them. You are better off taking off your mods and selling them individually rather than on the bike or offer them for sale to the buyer as a separate price. On the bike they might add $500 maybe $1000 to the overall value of your bike depending on the buyer. Others might have different opinions. Just my 2 cents.

 

It is a 100% true statement that aftermarket upgrades DO NOT add value to a bike. They might in fact LOWER the value. Unless you are perfectly certain how or why those upgrades were made, it's really a crap shoot. Take a bike like the 5th gen with the conventional muffler as an example. The add says "New Muffler, New Brake & Clutch Levers, New Bars-Ends & Custom Paint". Does that mean the individual selling this bike liked these after market do-dads? Or does that mean he low-sided the bike on the right side and he's not admitting it & covering it up?

Same here in my valley. You will mostly loose the money spend on add-on's. If anything the bike might sell faster than a stock standard one but for pretty much the same price.

Maybe if the changes are realy very exclusive ...... I hope.......... you might be able to add a premium to the price and even then, no way someone will pay a higher price for a second hand bike than a new one. I have spent a load of money in customising my BMW - mostly carbin fibre http://www.bmwk1200s.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3662 for those interested so I'm in exactly that boat.

 

I think NADA book value for your ‘06 is around 9,200.00 with out the mods. Some banks will only go 80% of NADA value on a used bike. I paid about 500 under blue book for my ’04 (in Aug) and it had: > 5K miles, new D220 rear tire, an aftermarket exhaust, BMC filter, and bar risers. I probably could have gotten it even cheaper but it had the mods I wanted and was in pristine shape. It had been for sale for about 4 weeks and he was going to trade it in on something else that weekend. So, I agree with the others, you would be better off installing the original parts and selling the aftermarket parts separately. The exception would be someone looking you for exactly what you have done as far as mods and has the means to pay for it. Good luck with the bike and I hope you don’t have to sell.

 

You will take a bath on the accessories, I am sorry to say, unless you happen to find someone who wants the exact same stuff as you do.

Put it this way, when my 98 VFR was stolen a few years ago, I got $5,300 settlement. $5k for the bike, $300 for the farkles. This included, carbon fiber on the triple tree, gauge cluster, tank protector; Ohlins rear shock, Ohlins front fork springs, steel braided lines, Wave Rotors, Power Commander, Gen Mar risers, Powerlet outlet at the foot peg and one in dash, a billet GPS mount, Saeng radar detector mount, Sargent seat, Givi screen. Tires, sprockets and chain (RK gold) not even a week old. Plus it was in just perfect shape. So for all that, $300! I probly spent more than that in shipping and/or taxes for all of it. Grrrrr
