I just ordered a Shorai LFX18A1-BS12 battery for my 98 VFR 800. This is the extended rate (270 CCA/18A/hr) battery. Amazon has them for $95.

I'll post a review to this thread once it's in the bike~

The price, availability, output and weight are all important factors but will one prevent son of woof's bike from falling over?

It came to my attention this may be the 6 volt version of the battery (BS06). The description clearly stated this was a 12 volt battery. In researching the model numbers, it appears the 12 volt is BS12 & the 6 volt is BS06. PLEASE VERYIFY before shipping to me! I require the 12 volt version.

    Thank you,

Gee your project is screwed before you even started. I like the idea of a light weight battery but so far people have had not too good luck, like bike won't start if its too cold, or what ever:noidea:

This started me looking at the dimensions of all the Shorai batteries & I haven't found a single one that meets the dimension s of my bike (3.5x5.5x5.5).

Looks like the old lead brick is still the best battery-I would like a lighter battery because its not in the best spot and adds to tip over odds-I don't like working so hard pushing this 500 pound monster on my thin wood floor.:der:

Well, I know others here have used the Shorai; just not sure which model will fit. Most say the model that fits the Honda STX1300 will work, but the dimensions read 8" tall!

$99 seems like a great deal. I've had my 07 for 2 1/2 years now, the po had installed a Shorai and still working great. I don't know how long it was in before I purchased the bike as the po was sadly killed on one of his other motorcycles. The Shorai in my bike is smaller than the oe battery and is just shimmed in place with flat sheets of closed cell foam, seems to work fine though.

I have heard that a 3lb battery vs a 6lb battery will increase the top end of any VFR from 150 to 180mph with room left in the battery compartment for a bag of jo-jo's.

Got the battery in the mail yesterday. it doesn't say Yuasa anywhere on it....just MMG.

I'll be installing it in the viffer later today. it specifically states the battery must be charged between 14 and 15 volts. I think that may be the problem that some people have been having with the lithium ion batteries. Under charging or overcharging due to faulty R/R.
